Re: What, really, is the difference between SCI Pro 1 and P5

It's not just the range and no cv/scanning that's different On the Prophet 5 you have OSC B (freq) and Filter (envelope) as sources and for destinations you have OSC A (freq), OSC A PW and Filter (cutoff). Also on the P5 you can have the LFO target OSC A (freq), OSC B (freq), OSC A PW, OSC B PW and ...

Re: What, really, is the difference between SCI Pro 1 and P5

Just read a Vince Clarke interview where, again, they mention he has a P5, and then he says the Pro 1 is his favourite because of "fast envelopes". Surely the Pro 1 is the same as one voice of a rev 3 P5? And wouldn't a Pro 5 be better because it has memories? They both use the same envelope genera...

Re: What, really, is the difference between SCI Pro 1 and P5

How is a VCA going to slow things down? It's just an amplifier that can take a CV for level control. Used as the summing amp, there's no envelope. Sure. I guess I'm just imagining that anything extra in the signal chain might slew the signal somehow. Anyway, there's no actual emperical evidence tha...

Re: was the pro 5 the only funk synth

Oberheims were used a lot, Prince, The Time, Terry lewis/Jimmy Jam and lot´s of other funkbands.
OB-Xa and OB-8 were the most common AFAIK.

Re: New Studio Addition: Minimoog!!

Congrats!
VERY good and unusual sounds you´ve made!

Would be very cool to try your sounds on my Mini D if you post those charts.

Thanks in advance.

Re: The great official thread of the Prophet-5

The earliest recorded instance of "The Prophet" synthesizer (as it was originally called in ads) may be Joe Zawinul's album "Mr. Gone", which was recorded in may '78. The printing date of the original "The Prophet" demo/soundsheet record is 5-18-78 so it probably predates the recording of Zawinul's...

Re: Vangelis interview

Have you people seen this yet? Somehow I'm not completely sure how much ouzo influence there is in all that mumbo jumbo.. it'd be a weird debate with him on VSE, that's what I'm sure of.. :P I disagree, I think that most of what Vangelis said is some of the most sane and intelligent stuff I´ve hear...

Re: What was your first Moog?

First Moog was the Prodigy.

Got rid of it when I got my Mini D.

As others have stated, the Prodigy has a fantastic syncsound.

Thinking of modding my D to have sync.

Anyone here have a syncmodded Minimoog?
(and compared the syncsound to a Prodigy?)

Re: The Kurzweil K2000 sounding warmer than later K-workstat

Man, Go for a K2500R with KDFX (Super FX card) It is what I wanted the K2000 to be. Same sound as K2000, but double polyphony and RAM. Better envelopes. MUCH better display. Better transposing of samples. Fantastic midicontroller, yes even as a rackunit! And when you add the KDFX, it takes the K2000...

Re: Turning your JX-3P into a pseudo-Jupiter

Speaking of other synthesizers, Murray and I have briefly discussed possible modifications for the MKS-80 -- such as allowing each oscillator to out each of its waveforms if so desired. Murray never even said he'd be looking at the MKS-80 as a possible project, but if there was enough interest I'm ...

Re: Oberheim Xpander - "slow" envelope rectification

Ah, yes - did you post this on the Xpantastic list? In reality though, I was always more curious about switching up the op-amps and cleaning up the signal first (as was also mentioned on the list). That is a bigger gripe to me than the envelopes. Don´t remember if I posted that over there, probably...

Re: Oberheim Xpander - "slow" envelope rectification

Having been convinced, and having convinced myself that the Xpander will always have eternally slow envelopes. I was very concerned with the "slow" envelopes of my Matrix 12 some years ago and wondered if anything could be done to make them faster. At the time the M12 was my only analog synth. Fina...
