EHX B9 / C9 pedals with keyboards?
Has anyone used the B9 or C9 organ machine pedals together with a keyboard? They're made primarily for guitarists, but the EHX website claims they are for keyboardists too. I haven't seen any Youtube demos of those pedals being used with a keyboard instrument so far. I'm interested in using one with...

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?
I realize my initial comment was not worded properly.
Yeah, I have an idea how the line was done after a second listen. It's been a while since I've listened to any music like that.

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?
basic? so what. you could call Madonna's Like A Virgin, NIN's closer or MJ's Billy Jean basslines basic too. it's the overall effect that matters. not necessarily how complex a patch or musical phrase. seems to me people are too suspicious of anything that's new. I did not say anything negative abo...

Re: Reverb, can anything sound this good?
Are the Strymon boxes something you could use on a full mix too? It would be perhaps a bit odd to use a pedal for the purpose, but it's the stuff inside that counts in the end. I just took a look at the prices for the Bricasti and "better" Lexicon models. Lord Christ, what year are we living current...

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?
Holy mother of God that baseline is INSANE ......................................... Not really but the video certainly is batshit crazy... The bassline itself is pretty basic. The higher sound that accompanies it may give initially the impression that the bassline itself would be some sort...

Re: Favorite use of the 808?
Oh, yeah. "Sexual Healing".
I don't really like the snare. At least it should be doubled with something else. I often have hard time believing the 808 when used as such has been so popular even in mainstream radio, because it's about as lofi as it gets for snare sounds.

Re: Playing synths: do you play what you like to hear ?
Yes. These days more than ever. Probably because I'm a better player now. I suppose when I was still in my twenties I was doing "genre-hopping" all the time, experimenting with different sounds and sound manipulation techniques. The problem was that I could barely ever get more than 2-3 tracks finis...

Re: An affordable Analog Poly
I think this could be a viable product. He'll obviously need to produce more demos, but at least two of them ("stabby chords" and esp. "mellow pads") sounded great to me. Very smooth, very warm.* * I almost got kicked out of gearslutz for suggesting that these demos sounded better to me than those ...

RIP.
He did amazing music.
His best stuff had the perfect balance between the abstract and the melodic.

Re: When recording synths...
It is a common trick to cut all the lows on everything but the kick and bass. This really does work. Yep. Try it. It won't necessarily provide you with the best-sounding mixes, but it should give you a better idea of how to make your mixes actually work. Compare the results to some classic records ...

Ah, the days when you could still become wealthy by selling records and performing live.
Such a distant memory by now, seems like it never happened.

Re: What was the first song you learned on your first synth?
I learned "Give In To Me" by Michael Jackson when I was 14, but I played it on my uncle's Technics keyboard. I was really impressed by the electric guitar sound on it and completely overlooked that he had a goddamn CS-80 in the other room at the time, hah. Don't really remember what was the first on...

Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?
I have a Rhodes MKI. Not a Fender Rhodes, just a Rhodes after they dropped the Fender from the name, but I've tried to mod it to sound more like the instruments used on early-70s jazz fusion stuff (yeah, it sounds nothing like the 80s DX7 approximations, it's an entirely different sound). The middle...
