Re: Drum Machines and Synths in 80's music production

A big thing after MIDI came out was stacking synths together for a huge sound. I remember MIDIing my OB-8 with a Mirage, DX-7 and a CZ-101 for just one sound. That was a big deal back then.

Re: Synths that you loved before, but have now gone off

Hard to believe, but I don't care for my Moog Voyager RME. Just something about it doesn't sound right to me. I'm putting it up for sale soon I think.

Re: Have you ever... thrown away a synth?

Never threw anything away, but I just gave away a huge amount of gear. Some Ensoniq and Emu stuff. The guy drove 7 hours to get it. He even took my old c**p cassette decks. I would have had no problem tossing it all though.

Re: CASIO CZ's

I always liked my CZ-101. What's cool is that you can set the sustain point at any stage in the envelopes.

Re: Let's talk about the Yamaha SK series

I bought my SK-20 brand new in 1982. It was expensive, but I loved it. I used to plug it in to a 147 Leslie. Sounded great for the time. I replaced it when I bought my Oberheim OB-8 a year later. So, there it sat until I ended up loaning it out to someone and then forgot who. Never saw it again. May...

Re: Motu's BPM

I've had it for about a week. I really like it. I wish this was available when I bought my MPC500. I wouldn't have got the MPC. BPM is easy to use and sounds great. I haven't had a chance to try it with pads yet but I guess I'll try it out with the MPC while I still have it.

Re: omnisphere-soft synth of the gods?

btw arpnutt : you actually like that burning piano sound ? I honestly feel that it must be the most overrated patch in ages. that's definitely one that doesn't "live up to its rep" in my book  I don't care for the burning piano. The only time I will use it is if someone put a gun to me. I pref...

Re: omnisphere-soft synth of the gods?

guess there will always be naysayers. there are critics of every synth. i think the best way to experience omnisphere or atmosphere is in your own room with a midi controller, not just by checking out the demos. you really get a feel for the depth of the sounds that way IMO. To each their own. As l...

Re: omnisphere-soft synth of the gods?

The longer I've been using Omnisphere, the more I get to love it. The only real downside to me is that they've overdone it with the amount of included presets. Even with their browser you still have way too many sounds to quickly find something you want. If I'm not looking for some atmospheric text...

Re: Yamaha SK and CS-m series

I had an SK-20 back in the 80's. I loved it. I used to put it through a 147 Leslie with the footswitch preamp and it was very convincing.

Re: omnisphere-soft synth of the gods?

indeed, it is  if you wanna get stylus, you'd better wait, cause they're upgrading the thing too. (unless the upgrade is finished by now, but I doubt it, since they only released omnisphere about 2 months ago) Thanks for the tip. I'm going to have to wait. Along with Omnisphere, I've added...

Re: omnisphere-soft synth of the gods?

I have just spent the weekend with it. It is unbelievable! The amount of work put into it is staggering. Now I have to get RMX to go with it.
