Re: Gear Trading Thread
I have a bunch of things which I thought might come in handy but which are frankly gathering dust. Not literally, of course: most everything is kept with a dustcover on it. Everything is up for trade. Preference given to Canadian traders, but I'll consider the US too if you we can work something out...

Re: Poll: What's your favorite 2-pole, -12db/oct. filter?
Another one.
It's been a few years since I used it too (well... 8 or 9 to be somewhat more precise), but when I owned a Modcan modular the 10a Filter (which has four outputs, generating 12dB low, high, band and notch signals) it had a really nice, juicy, elastic quality about it.

Did I miss it, or was the Future-Retro XS not included in the list?
I must confess a liking for it, as well as the Mk. 1 Odyssey, and the Little Phatty in 2-pole mode.
Not as enchanting: the CS-15 and the Prophet'08. Good synths both, but not as good as the others.

Tears For Fears "The Hurting": name those synths?
I don't think this one has come up before (certainly a search didn't yield any hits). Anyone care to do a rundown on the first TFF album and what was used on it? I was just listening to a copy of their Peel Sessions recordings from '82, when The Hurting was the only thing they had in the can to draw...

Re: pain in the a*s synths (frustration)
Although I'll single out the Wavestation for this, a lot of other synths back in the day had the same problem: patches had to be part of higher level performances. Change a patch and every performance that used that same patch changed as well. Great for making the most economical use of memory, but ...

Re: VSE - Good trader/seller thread
Bought an Encore Knobby from nuketifromorbit . It arrived well packed and in the mint condition he described. He also shipped it quite promptly.
You'd do well to buy from him.

Re: Recent unpopularity of Wavestation?
I think I'm the only one here who thinks the wavestation sucks... but I guess the market is beginning to agree. Sucks in what way? I can't stand the low sound quality of the samples (and the effects unit). It looks good on paper, but I've never heard anything from the wavestation which sounded clea...

Re: What got you into synths?
depeche mode Yeah, that pretty much sealed the deal for me. Hearing a copy of Some Great Reward on a friend's tape in 1984 sucked me in. All of a sudden I wanted a synth. They were mysterious machines that sounded That. f**k. Cool. Having said that, the foundation had been laid years before by a co...

Re: ARP Odyssey - filters on different models
I am considering buying an ARP Odyssey. There seem to be three (or four or five?) different versions? Three different iterations, with a few sub-iterations, yes. Is the filter in the black Mark I the same as the filter in the white Mark I? The first few Black & Gold ones (which are typically all id...

Re: Top 20 Most Unreliable Vintage Synths
Everybody forgot to mention the Sequential Circuits PRO-SOLO. You meant the Pro One, right? Yes, a lot of corners cut to make it affordable. Nothing disastrous though. I didn't own mine for long enough to speak to long term reliability, but you're so right: it did feel cheap. The rear sockets would...

Re: Keyboard Stands
I really wish I'd read this thread before I ordered 3 x Quik Lok 3-tier double X stands for my synths. Unbelievably shoddy design - the tiers don't even line up properly!! The leaning tower of Synth? Seriously, wtf? I've even had to put in cardboard spacers to stop them wobbling. I'd read some nega...

Re: what's your take on modding gear?
My attitude is usually along the lines of "If's it's been done, it's been done". There's no point moaning about a mod if someone has performed it already. It might be executed brilliantly or atrociously; the only question I ask is does it affect whether I want to buy the instrument and how much I'm ...

It's a great synth at $300 (what I paid for mine a couple of weeks ago), and a veritable bargain at anything under $250.

Re: So long Voyager Old School
I'm so glad I picked one up when I had the chance. 35 years separate it and my Oddy, but they compliment each other beautifully.
