Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
Actually, it has the chips from all three Revs onboard. There's also a knob to increase the instability like the early revs. Wonder what the haters will be able to complain about now ;) Surely that would mean SSM chips for the Rev 1 & 2 sections. I'm not aware they've been remanufactured, so it's p...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)
I’d sell every last thing you mentioned in your post and go buy one or two REALLY good pieces. SH-2 over Sh-101 (owned both) JX-3P kiwi modded over 8P or mks70 (owned all hate the later JX sound and filter) OB-6 if you get enough cash from selling it all. Prefer it to the Prophet 6 and rev 2 I owned...

Re: Duran Duran & Arcadia: Guess the synths
To answer my own question, I'm 99% sure the rhythmic d-a-d part is the Prophet 5 as I emulated it nigh on perfectly on my Prophet 6. It just has that 'sound', kinda metallic when it needs to be.

Re: Should I stay or should I go?! :-)
Not being a **** but I honestly wouldn't keep anything from what you list. It's all middle ground stuff without any amazing tone/vibe (for me personally). I'd sell the lot and buy FEWER but BETTER pieces. An analog mono, an analog poly and a digital poly. The best for your needs in each category. Po...

Re: Oberheim and The Police?
Loads of photos of sting/the police with a Prophet 10 (so prophet 5 bascially). They used that more than anything up until the last two albums.

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...
Usually when I buy a new synth still in production I tend to notice their flaws and limitations. But as soon as an instrument is cancelled by a company, I usually shut down shop in caring about the instrument's limitations and start to focus on what it can bring to my setup. It's a weird psychologi...

Re: Kiwi-3p - Experiences?
Holy kiwi-bump batman... hey guys, does the ARP on the Kiwi 3p Mod have beat-sync? Does it play exactly like the ARP on the Juno 60 (one of the best ever for playing ahead of your self but staying locked in). Am tired of arps that are key sync only, almost useless for arp noodling and inspirational ...

Re: Buying my first synth (Moog Sub37, DSI P6, DSI Rev2)
Bit late but I've owned two of these (Rev 2 and Sub 37) and have a borrowed Prophet 6 that I've used loads over the past year or so. They are all quite different really, and all quite good. Rev 2 is great for advanced sounds, modulation, and layering. It'll do lots of soundscape type sounds pretty e...

Re: Duran Duran & Arcadia: Guess the synths
@Micke Sorry for this mega necro bump, but if anyone will know it's you... talking of Tel Aviv, do you know what synth is doing the D - A - D repeated metallic riff throughout the entire song (and starts it), I'm thinking it's probably prophet 5 as my Polysix got close in unison mode, but could be J...

Re: Jupiter-4 vs Roland Sh-2 & Jx3p vs Juno2
Having now owned an SH-2 for some time, I'd say (years later) that you'd have to go some way to sound better in the VCOs than the SH-2. JP-4 is cool, 4 poly, unison, but it's a SINGLE osc with sub, vs (real) Dual oscs with sub, independent oscs that is. The JP-4 won't sound as full, rich or warm as ...

Re: Roland JX showdown: JX-3P vs JX-8P vs Super JX10
Either way, one thing I'd always advise on the 8P/10/MKS-70 is to run it without the chorus as much as you possibly can, it seems to exaggerate the shortcommings in the oscs/filter more than on most synths. Run the basic sounds through some outboard/plugs - bypass the chorus and things start soundi...
