Re: ALL synths will eventually become vintage for somebody

Except the ESQ-1 which apparently will *never* ever go up in value 8-) . Seriously f**k plasticy bullshit. My micron will sell for almost its full sticker price on ebay TOMORROW.... more moneys toward the new toy fund for me! Still on a DCO kick--looking for a Jx-8p or a Poly-61

Re: Dx7 dead button

Ahhhh. Found the service manual online, and I am surprised that this does not seem to be as complicated a synth to service as I had anticipated. I may go ahead and buy a backlit LCD to throw on while ive got her open. Also, I just found out that this particular DX was one of the first production run...

Dx7 dead button

damn. So the "store" button my beloved DX7 just decided to die on me. Is this a possible DIY fix? I am quite technically inclined (have replaced and recapped power supplies, upgraded Eproms on an EsQ1, ect). Thanks in advance for the help

Re: Real analog or VA?

VA's have thier place and are without a doubt beautifully expressive and useful instruments in their own right. That said, even the most convincing VAs (Nord Lead and Ion/ Micron come to mind) can never *completely* trick my ear into thinking they are analog. I prefer digital boards like the DX7, DS...

Re: Dx7 VS ESQ-1

^^^ Thats the great thing about synths, is that you can dive into them and make sounds that you wouldn't expect. I think my issue is the time it takes to program the dx7. It just make it not an enjoyable experience for me. I definitly think its in the hands of the programer and awesome stuff can be...

Re: My new Roland Juno-6. WARNING: SYNTH p**n AHEAD

hmmm. I only own one (JU-6) but I can see the benefits of having both, one for pure tweaking pleasure and one to save patches for easy recall during performances. That said--and not to toot my own horn--being a pretty decent programmer makes recalling patches from memory on the Juno damn easy. Lmao ...

Re: Dx7 VS ESQ-1

Jambo, thats just linking me to the soundcloud homepage... could you embed the files in a post? I have programmed the S&*t out of the ESQ and would be psyched to hear any patch that I *havent* already gotten at least in the ballpark of. My bad! I didn't use the correct link. It's fixed now, ...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1, Korg Prophecy or Jen SX1000

I second that game changer. I would agree with everything that you said and add: The ESQ can has a modulation matrix that is extensive, flexible, and versatile in terms of routing. If you thought it had "no character" when you heard it boxed, then either the person who was playing it has no idea how...

Re: Novachord #346 Inspection & Initial Wakeup

what an *awesome* thread. Talk about a Vintage synth.... the Novachord is all over the soundtrack to Hitchcocks 1940 movie Rebecca. Every time they refer to the late Mrs. Dewinter (Rebecca) you can hear the Novachord.... it adds an ominous atmosphere to an already creepy film. Hideaway, I have to as...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1, Korg Prophecy or Jen SX1000

if you aren't interested in programming your own sounds that much get the Ensoniq.. Whaaaa? Programming the ESQ-1 is a breeze. Its not a machine for live tweaking because changed parameters only sound after the next key is pressed. But its *soooooo* easy to program--and a great synth to lea...

What is the synth in Roger Waters "Radio Waves?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACfiRwJeFsE I know that Reg used the CMI, the EMU, and the Dx7 on this album. I *think* the synth in this vid is the Emu Emulator II but you only get a few short shots of it...... any help from those of you that own this guy? I have emulated this sound on my DX7 alread...

Re: Dx7 VS ESQ-1

Obveously I do love the ESQ-1. It was my first *real* synthesizer. It does indeed have a more approachable and warm sound that the DX7 but I dont necessarily think that it is a better synth. They are different, yes, but there is enough overlap there (the ESQ can do a damn convincing DX7 rhodes, for ...
