Re: The lead line in "Pyromance" by Chemlab???

Here it is, from the horse's mouth: SC: What gear do you use and how do you go about creating your sound? Dylan Thomas: I've got a bunch of samplers. I've got an Akai S1000 and for the old album we had a bunch of Emax's. I got the Akai to upgrade my sounds, since it's better quality. The way we appr...

Re: The lead line in "Pyromance" by Chemlab???

Cool, thank you celebutante. I will give it a try. I figured it was something easy, I can't imagine a coldwave industrial band going through too much trouble to achieve a specific sound. I'll give it a try.

Re: The lead line in "Pyromance" by Chemlab???

Yeah, I saw them recently, the singer has a bunch ov younger guys in the band now.

A wavetable synth that has been processed by something like turbosynth seems likely. I've heard that the K2000 has some sampling capabilities that are similar to turbosynth.

The lead line in "Pyromance" by Chemlab???

So I have a question about the lead synth line in this song: Chemlab - Pyromance I'm pretty adept when it comes to programming but this particular lead sound has alluded me for sometime. All I really know is that the album came out in 1993 and I "think" they used a Kurzweil K2000, which is likely, g...

Re: Returning to to the esi-32!

Just curious, but if you enjoy the esi-32, why not upgrade to the Ultra line? Those samplers are going for cheap these days.

Re: BOSS DR-660?

I own a DR-660. The whole thing with the DR-660 and Squarepusher is he liked the fact that it had a "roll" feature that you could trigger while slowly increasing the volume ov the pads through velocity AND change the note values for the roll feature. The DR-660 has a nice sound to it that works well...

Re: How and why does the Quasimidi Sirius sound so good?

Weird. I was happy as h**l the day I sold my Quasimidi Sirius. I have no idea why people think it sounds good. Some ov the waveforms were nice and all but other than that, it just sounded plasticky to my ears. If you check out the frequency response with the filter wide open, it only goes up to abou...

Re: The most with the least

I've done an entire album with just this:
  • Sequential Circuits: Pro~One
  • Roland: R8 mkII drum machine
  • Roland: VS-880EX digital 8-track
On another note, DJ Shadow's album: Endtroducing was done entirely on an Akai MPC-60. Very impressive IMHO.

Re: industrial drums

Well, the kick drum you are referring to is actually a sample ov a door slamming combined with a kick sample in the Fairlight CMI.
