Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

I wouldn't say it's that simple. I wouldn't be going for a hifi sound if I was using a raw wave into a heavy metal pedal. But I would want it to sound like that synth going into that pedal. Impedance mismatching can make the sound much thinner. Volume mismatch can also overdrive a cheap AD which sou...

Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

I agree that effects and production has a lot to do with it. But having said that, I do prefer the sound of the older analogs as they seem to just have "that" sound. BTW. do you use ReAmp boxes with your effects since most pedals are designed for guitars and not line-level. Many claim that impedance...

Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

I wish I could afford both a modern and vintage one. I like the real lo-fi drifting type of sounds like Boards of Canada. And nice pads as well. It's just hard to justify $3000 for a Prophet 5 when I know it might break soon. Maybe an Omega plus either a Polysix or Juno might make me happy. Or do yo...

Re: Thermionic Culture Vulture examples?

Aren't there any line-level overdrive/distortion units that cost less?

Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

You're saying a synth that sounded old and dirty that was built today would cost $20,000? Why so much?

Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

123synthland and Wine Country sell refurbished synths. I'm looking for rebuilt ones, or at least ones with every capacitor changed so I don't potentially have to bring the synth in to have them changed in 5 years or less. How much does Wine Country want for a Prophet 5? @Clusterchord I am after the ...

Re: Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

i did look quite closely at the Andromeda and Poly Evolver Vintage should be fine if you take care of it. That's what I'm not crazy about. Are there ways to make the new analogs sound more like their old counterparts? narrow their bandwidth perhaps? :?: Where can I try an Andromeda, Omega 8 and vint...

Vintage or Modern Poly for me?

Ok, maybe this is incredibly stupid asking on a forum with this name, but I'm close to buying my first polyphonic analog synthesizer and I really can't decide between buying a modern synth or an analog one. The new ones just seem to sound so darn clean. I was thinking of buying one and adding someth...

Re: Thermionic Culture Vulture examples?

I'd like to hear some too. Specifically with drum machines and modern analog synths.
