Re: Beggining into synths

LOL - I didn't know "iterating through a flat list of options on a tiny LCD with a single wheel, then hitting edit, then iterating through possible values with the same wheel" is considered to be a blast. You can get all the knobs and sliders you want through midi. I mean a blast in that the sounds...

Re: Interesting examples of ring modulation?

Here's my Wurly and ring mod example; the first 20 seconds is clean and the rest is a few different flavors of the ring mod moogerfooger. http://soundcloud.com/beatnik-supers/wurly-and-ring-mod-example This is one is a little better, Clavinet and ring mod. Clean riffs followed by adding ring mod htt...

Not at the moment, but I have a day off soon so I will try to record/post a sample...it blasts through the mix in a band setting!

Re: Interesting examples of ring modulation?

The album Waka Jawaka by Frank Zappa features a bit of ring mod.

I personally use the Moog ring mod (usually sans LFO) to harshen the sound of my Wurly, very expressive with CV plugged in! I prefer it at about 25 % wet for texturing, and will only raise the wet mix for FX

Re: Beggining into synths

If you are okay with buying off the internet, I would suggest one of the "cheaper" Junos (such as the alphas). They are a blast to program and there's enough memory to save presets for performance. As far as amplification, maybe a small mixer (eg Soundcraft Notepad is about 6 useable channels with i...

Re: Steely Dan + Prophet-5 = true?

Nice one..."later we'll make some calls from my car;" times sure have changed LOL. My band did Black Friday at our last gig. I played the 1st wurly part on a 200a and the second wurly part on V synth: Just sampled the same 200a into V synth and used a square wave LFO to modulate pan every quarter no...

Re: Steely Dan + Prophet-5 = true?

Wasn't the harmonica solo on Hey 19 a melodica solo?

Anyway, I think P5 would sound awesome on the intro to Peg.

Synthesizers: players' music

Hello all, I have a question that is a bit open ended... In jazz and rock, "players' music" is very discernible from "listeners' music." As a musician, I am attracted to the more complex music of the former (e.g. bebop and prog respectively). Electronic music is different from these in terms of prod...

Re: Moving synths to play a gig

Consider buckling it in; some of my Virus' keys broke off when it slid onto the floor from the back seats of my automobile (the leather seats were a mistake). Of course this isn't needed if you have a good case or some bubble wrap or et cetra

Re: Lets talk basslines

I record basslines exclusively on a fretless bass...it can be especially useful for matching pianos/synths that are untuned/detuned.

A V synth song

I recorded this track last year using some guitars and mostly V synth presets. It still needs polishing and mastering. Thanks for listening :)

Re: Coffee spilled into the synth - what to expect?

What kind of keyboard? I can assure that the Wurlitzer 200 is coffee ready. Beverages make synths behave funny though...as they say, give it 3 days or drop it from 3 feet to fix.

Re: Gear Envy.

As my mother told me during my synth lust onset, "You can only play one at a time."

But really, I keep more synths set up than I use at once. The centrality of a hub setup saves me from a lot of plugging and cable knots.
