Re: Poly Evolver FM Sound
I find that the FM on the evolver line gets gets really trashy when played on high notes. The FM is great on the bass and mid range notes, but for most FM the quality of the notes disintegrates before 2 octaves above middle C. It is possible with the evolvers to FM the analogue oscillators, although...

Re: balanced/unbalanced studio wiring question
The balanced cable on some units that expect unbalanced will cancel the sound. More of an issue with gear that's oriented towards guitarists than keyboardists. Very common on pedals. Not quite sure what this means. How does using balanced cable on unbalanced gear 'cancel the sound'? Yeah, if you pu...

balanced/unbalanced studio wiring question
In the very near future I am planning to get the focusrite saphire 40 interface and will need to buy a lot of cabling. Basicly, my question is this: if I buy balanced cabling does it matter that most my gear has unbalanced outputs? So, if I use a balanced cable to hook up an unbalanced sound source ...

Re: New Mono Synth from Vermona
From the vermona website: Extension There’s a 25pin sub-D connector on the rear of the Mono Lancet. It extents the possibilities of the synthesizer enormously through numerous in- and outputs for control voltages and audio signals. PWM and filter input are just two of them. So Vermona just confirmed...

Re: Baldwin Fun Machine
ahhh, the fun machine.... if it is what I think it is it is a really cheap home preset organ with all those cheesy synthesized sounds plus a very basic preset rhythm section. There are no options for creating you own or strange sounds IMO. The keys are especially bad. I definitely wouldn't pay $100 ...

Re: Any Aussies bought from AWave before?
I suppose you could say I bought my evolver from Awave - I actually purchased it from audio chocolate but I think their supplier is Awave. Their best price was still about $100 more than buying it from america+shipping, but since i am still pretty new to all this I just wanted everything to be easy ...

Re: Cut Copy Synth help
I believe that a lot of their studio productions are done with software synths... at least that was the case with the earlier stuff.

Re: Headphones?
I swear by my Sennheiser HD 25-1 mk2. Yes, they are on-ear, but I am so used to them now I can almost wear them all day (I did get pains for the first week or 2 after an hour but I stuck with them). A few reasons why I like them: They have a great sound, very accurate and detailed; they are very por...

Re: Gear that's simple and indespensible
Well... everything I own is indispensable
when you don't have a lot of stuff you know everything inside out, but simplest has to be audio and midi interfaces - 2 ins 2 outs, bus powered, easy routing inside a DAW, no hidden menus or page scrolling

how many midi outs? Looks like one in, out and thru http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~concuss/concussor/aspics/europa-front.jpg http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~concuss/concussor/aspics/europa-back.jpg It's got a nice feature set (trigger outs + midi), but I can't say I'm really interested in it

Re: New to synths, but want one
When I was purchasing my first synth one of the biggest things I took into consideration was the reliability and contition on the unit and what repairs or maintainence might be required. That is the reason I went for something modern was just to be safe - I didnt know how to maintain them or want to...

Re: Recommend rack tube pre's
In my case I have 2 synths that need the signal boost. One vintage and one digital but the digital synth has an upcoming OS update and will probably remedy this(I hope). I currently run the vintage synth through a space echo and it makes a difference hence my search for a pre. Oh... Right, that mak...

Re: Recommend rack tube pre's
Excuse my ignorance, but.... Is there really any point in using a preamp in a synthesizer set up? Unless you want to add 'warmth' to the sound I don't really see any point - although I really don't know everything about recording. If you were bypassing a noisy inbuilt VCA I could see a purpose but o...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread
Now, is there any hope that it will ever be sold in a UK shop? I'm reluctant to ship because I cannot be 100% sure of the custom tax and quietly hope that audioMIDI.com's exclusive rights to sell the SEM are only an initial and temporary advantage over the other distributors and it will expire afte...
