It's a valid point.

Re: Jexus' review of the Alesis Andromeda is up
It's an instrument, not an investment portfolio. In 10 years time there will be a number of these worth very little and marked 'spares or repair', too, remember that. If you want to make money, go stocks or property. If you want a fine sounding synth, put this on your list alongside the others.

Re: Jexus' review of the Alesis Andromeda is up
I can't help feeling someone needs to loan Jexus a Prophet 12. That synth was made for him..... I think he's spot on with the Andromeda's UI. I played one in the store before going with the Virus, and although I missed out on an asset, the UI was confusing and cramped to me. A frustrating experience...

does how the final sound is created matter? Not to the average listener. As long as it sounds good and fits together..

Re: DSI Prophet 12 Module
Yes, the cheek of it. I think taking a $2900 synth design ethos, adding a load of analogue filters, updating the display to 2013 standards and selling it for $2100 is plainly a dirty, no good thing to do. I'd much rather DSI reconditioned a few old ESQ's and sold them for $5000. That would be a far ...

That would be odd - the last competition was won by an Australian, and was a worldwide thing. I'm in, too, from the UK.

Re: New Elektron Machine
Either mono or MD mark III, probably. Maybe some new machines in there, maybe even an analogue bitty [BD, SD, HH?] and likely in octaBlack.

Re: Modding a synth: disrespectful ??
the lit sliders on the Odyssey look great, and I've seen some lovely custom jobs [the black NL2 by customsynth UK as an example] which IMHO improve the aesthetics of the original. Likewise, if the mod aids your use of a tool it's no more disrespectful than sticking a new tape on a racquet grip or pu...

Re: What should each company make next?
Korg PolyVolca Access Synth Profiling FX rack (doing for synths what the Kemper does for guitars) Arturia Maxibrute 2-voice (think Oberheim or Odyssey) Korg SQ10 Novation BassStation rack - make it 3U knobby, though, not 1U cramped DSI ProphetOne with the digi-analog path of the P12 to replace the M...

Re: Getting an iPad4, 32G wifi - set me up!
OK, tested, it's brilliant. Not only does is feel reasonably well built (though plastic through and through) but it's a completely independent setup. The ipad connector cable not only lets me control Nave, Thor, Animoog and the others that are coreMIDI compatible, but the unit has two built in speak...

Re: Getting an iPad4, 32G wifi - set me up!
There's a coreMIDI controller called 'piano apprentice' made by Ion and sold by places such as Maplin in the UK. It's cheap and cheerful, and really aimed at iPad novices. However, being coreMIDI capable - and available on eBay for around the £25 mark - this may well be a very cheap way of getting a...

Re: DSI Prophet 12 release date?
Well, to celebrate I just bought a Prophet 08. Only 5 years it took to make that decision..... I'm sure it'll be continued but the P'08 is still too good a synth to miss out on. The P'12 seems to me more an extension of the Evolver mindset [yes, the obvious differences] than an evolution of the P'08...

Re: Getting an iPad4, 32G wifi - set me up!
Thor and animoog for synths, maybe consider Alchemy, Sunrizer (and Bismark for its sf2 library import). Jamup or Amplitube for guitar. Turnado and LiveFx for realtime effects. Audiobus to tie them together. Should get you started, but these are the most commonly praised - thor is new, but proven els...
