Re: POST ANY INTERESTING EBAY / CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS HERE!!!

Check out the seller's feedback on the JP8, he either scammed the buyer or pulled a fast one. Either way, shananagins all around. I was wondering that too. Maybe I'm looking too far into it, but notice the back of the JP-8 the "Roland" logo looks a little more yellow than you'd expect? Maybe sun da...

Re: POST ANY INTERESTING EBAY / CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS HERE!!!

Saw a few auctions slip by the past few days.
All of them had good prices and ended instantly with a BIN.
At first I thought some of them were scams, but they don't have any of the usual signs.

Re: Should I trade my working 606 for a Fostex r8?

I bought a Fostex R8 about 3 years ago and sold it a year later. It wasn't much benefit for me, really more trouble than it was worth. Plus, with such a small tape width it's not much different than a 4 track cassette machine. The R8 has less noise since it runs at 15 IPS, a pro-sumer 4 track casset...

Hardware for playing VST instruments?

I've been wondering if theres any kind of hardware to reliably play a soft synth live, maybe some sort of rack device..?
Any solutions besides using a laptop? Not to sound too picky, but I'm not into the look of a laptop on stage.. :|

Why hasn't the TR 606 gained the notoriety/value of 808/909
Because it's yet to be overly hyped.
Until now.

Re: HELP!!!

Depends on the condition. $2000 to $2500 seems to be the going price on working but non-restored Minimoogs. If everything works and the knobs, case, etc are in good condition I think it is a great deal! Keep an eye out for clacking and/or unlevel keys, deep scratches/gouges in the wood, heavy scratc...

Re: Today's Best Value

All valid points. I think it excels at analog-esque pads and some really nice leads. Have you downloaded any of the free banks from the EX5Tech forum? Some nice stuff in there including a very well programmed set of Mellotron samples. Its funny you should mention that. I haven't downloaded all of t...

Re: Today's Best Value

I was just going to mention the Yamaha EX5 and EX5r. Same virtual analog synth engine as the AN1x, plus sampling and sample playback plus physical modeling plus FDSP. Very powerful synthesizer. I have an EX5 and have always felt it to be lacking. It does a lot of everything but I've never felt it r...

Re: Yamaha DX-7 Help

If you have the DX7 MK1, this info will apply. You need to connect your DX7 to a computer with a Midi cable (Computer Midi Out to DX7 Midi In) Turn on the DX7. Press the green "MEMORY PROTECT- INTERNAL" button. Press "No -1" to turn off memory protection. Press "Function" then press the #8 twice. Th...

Re: eBay advice - Have a look here

Not quite eBay, but I think this is still relevant. Recently I contacted someone about a JP8 they were selling for $1800. Asking for more info, they replied with this- Hello, First I am going to tell you some things I think you should know before ending this deal.I travel a lot and now I am in Easte...

Re: My CS-80 is almost fully working again! (with pics)

 How did they BUILD that thing?

When the CS80 was designed, was Yamaha taking a huge risk in order to prove themselves? Or did such a category in synthesizers simply not exist at that point making the CS80 viable?

Re: 9 year old kid: what HW or SW to buy him to make music?

It sounds like you're trying to find some sort of all in one box or software to learn with, which might be really confusing for a young kid depending how technical he is. You might consider getting a very simple synth - something like a Roland Juno 6, 60, 106 or even something modern like Nord Lead ...

Back in the day synths cost more than new cars of the time. I dont think the average user would be up to purchasing a $20,000 synth today :D
