Re: The obsession for the Analog
As someone who started 100% ITB, and not a audiophile at all (I don't even hear mp3 artifacts), I viewed analog as a rich snob game... Until I got one! The difference is obvious. It's like air-conditionned in a car: you can live without it until you have one in your car.

Re: how important is compression
I agree with Zamise that you shouldn't use TOO MUCH compression. I almost never use it on synths and electronic instruments (to me they sound already compressed). The exception being the bass, vocal and drum bus, to make levels even. On the master track, it's a limiter. Here I'm talking about techni...

Re: Microkorg or Minibrute
Microkorg is boring to program. It's polyphonic.
Minibrute looks fun to program. It's monophonic.
I'm not even talking about the analog vs digital debate.
If you're after interaction I guess Minibrute would be better. But it's not out yet so you don't really have a choice now.

Re: I need help man. Synth like in MGMT
But the OP wanted to sound like MGMT. Analog is really not the answer. step awaaaaay from the computer, please :? nothing you wrote makes any sense if you can't hear it in the first place  what are you doing playing in a live band if you can't even hear it, or as you wrote, 'ear' it? y...

Re: I need help man. Synth like in MGMT
The downside of the gaia is the raw sound: without the effects it can sound a bit crude, but if you're not making pristine studio records, it is not a problem at all. Live, nobody can hear the difference. holy h**l, has it really gotten this bad? i to go to clubs, and favor playing certain venues, ...

Re: I need help man. Synth like in MGMT
If it's for live performance, I'd rather suggest the Gaia: it has more on-board effects, better keyboard, and you can stack 3 sounds to make it sound bigger. Microkorg, is more difficult to program because it has less knobs. The downside of the gaia is the raw sound: without the effects it can sound...

Re: Monosynths and Composing/Mixing
I also love my MEK, and have more or less the same problem. I balance it with a Nord Lead, because it is NOT warm at all. So the 2 synths go together well.
Also, EQ is your friend.

Re: Are you an expert on a specific synthesizer?
I did most of my tracks with the free vst "Synth1" for almost 10 years (i believe I got synth1 the day it was released)
When I got my real Nord Lead 2x, it was happy time! I know it inside-out.
