Re: Starting small in the world of Modular synths

As far as compatability, afaik all modular formats are compatible with each other. The only issue you'll run into is going from 1/4" to 1/8" jacks or banana to 1/8", etc, but that can all be rectified with the proper converters or diy cables. not totally true. you will find some modulars like frac ...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

from your photo it appears that if the mini sequencer is reissued you could rack it with the PP SEM. :) well, it would certainly fit into the space where the CP251 is now, but I'm not sure how racking would work... you'd need some whole other enclosure/rack unit to hold it. And the chassis holding ...

Re: sq-80 vs esq-1

My suggestion would be to sell the PEK, and get an sq80 and MEK... I love the sq80-probably my favorite of all my synths, and I actually found the MEK format made more sense for that synth... 4 voices was too many, and too few at the same time. Either way, I'd say go sq80 instead of esq-1 just for ...

Re: sq-80 vs esq-1

I can't say whether or not either Ensoniq would be an adequate replacement for your PEK, but with regards to the "vs." question and stability--I've owned both synths and didn't experience any reliability problems with either one. The thing about these older synths with disk drives is that you might...

Re: Tom Oberheim to show new synth on Wednesday?

Except that what it is is a thousand dollar, VERY simple monosynth. So while there will be the diehards who will just buy it regardless, compared to the current crop of similarly priced monos, you've got very tough competition. I realize it's not his intention to turn this into a fully fledged prod...

sq-80 vs esq-1

hello folks, i might be selling my PEK for financial reasons(bad economy, baby on the way, hooked on modular). i really love its sound and interface but i think i might be able to get by with something less. two ensoniqs have peeked my interest, the sq-80 and esq-1. im leaning more towards the sq-80...

Re: Modular frustrations!

Another modular vs thread! Lately I've been seriously considering acquiring a modular synthesizer. After getting a Vermona DRM-1 I've become more interested in sequencing and rack-equipment and less in keyboards and playing. Sadly I don't have the funds to buy a modular right now, but when I do I w...

Re: Modular frustrations!

If you go Euro rack which Doepfer is, you will have access to a WORLD of manufactures and eclectic modules. Plus it's much more portable of a format, and you expressed interest in playing out live. Doepfer makes some good modules. They have nice standard modules and some really good crazy ones too....
