Re: Hours of Vintage Synth Test Recordings...

You won't be surprised I went straight for the Novachord!

Beautiful tracks - thank you for sharing.

Re: Prophet Rev 2 vs...?

Hi Ian, I have a Rev2. It is true most of the features are accessible directly from the front panel, but the reading the display is a key part of shaping sounds. If you were to use the mod matrix - using output from an LFO, say, to change the filter frequency, or modulate another LFO - then you need...

Re: Downsizing - versatile polysynth

As an ex-Evolver owner, if I were to get a new poly it would likely be the Rev2 because of the similarities of the engine, plus it's bi-timbral. The only negative of the Rev2 for me is the lack of a multimode filter. There's many similarities between the Evolver and Rev2 in terms of the engine, but...

Re: A good all purpose 70s string machine clone VSTi?

You could try looking into G-Force's Virtual String Machine (VSM). Sound on Sound speak very highly of it:

Disclaimer: I have a Waldorf Streichfett which I like very much, so I don't have the VSM.

Re: Prophet rev 2 Vs Virus ti2 polar keyboard (for Vox Humana sound)

Are you thinking of buying a synth based upon how well it does a 'Vox Humana'? (Vox Numana!) Forgive me, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. The Rev2 is certainly capable of it (I have one), as doubtless the Virus TI2 is, but they are very different synths. What else would you use it for? Complex p...

Re: Behringer's clone army

The B*hringer mixer I had 15 years ago was c**p (YMMV). The Model D they produced recently is not - I own one. It's impressive, considering what Moog were charging for reissues but a few years before. I do have problems with their behaviour towards those who criticise them or their products. Lawsuit...

Re: Musicianship and electronic music

Having come from a similar musical background myself (but not retired.. quite yet!), studying/playing music at home and school meant developing technique, but also an understanding of melody, harmony, counterpoint and most importantly structure. That said, it took a long time for me to reapply what ...

Luckily my apathy's kicked in, otherwise I'd be here arguing every petty, tedious point in an equally tedious, pointless manner.

Re: Odyssey Ultravox Vienna patch

I have a Korg MS-20 mini. I like it a lot for its sounds and what it can do, but the build quality is not good. The keyboard is a joke. The Korg Odyssey has the exact same keys. The size of the keys and the quality remind me of one of these: Melodica I'm quite impressed you can say that without hav...

Re: Odyssey Ultravox Vienna patch

Personally I don't think it's quite so slam-dunk between the Korg and the Behringer. I have a KARP mini, and it's as a close to the original as makes no difference. The build quality is absolutely fine: it doesn't feel flimsy. I prefer the mini, as a full-size Odyssey is huge for a mono synth. The m...

Re: my first synth

Seconded on the KS4. It will cover a wide array of sounds, and it's not too bad to edit either (not much menu diving). And it has built in effects. (reverb, delay, chorus, etc.)

I still have mine after many years.

Cheers

Re: Have mini moog - on to sequensers - ?

I am going to go through the whole Automaticgamesay youtube series Be careful. There is an awful lot to get through. ;) I am looking at a sequencer where one could change the pitch (or notes on the fly) like the Beatstep Pro. Word of caution on the original Beatstep - I have one - whilst it is a lo...

Re: Modern poly to complement Jupiter-8?

Yeah, I kinda already wrote Rev2 off in my OP, since I didn't like the 08's character. I'll try it out in the store when I'm trying the others, though. I'd be interested to hear what you think. I found the Rev2 similar to the 08 in person, except the Rev2 seemed less harsh, with more sweet spots (o...

Don't forget the Rev2*! My only regret is not getting the 16-voice version.

(*) But aye, the Summit sounds gorgeous too.
