Re: Problems importing other formats to Akai S5000

Hey, the same thing happens with some Akai CDs as well - like the S3000 library. :? Some elements (or "keygroups") of a Program sound muffled because there is always a low-pass filter and the cutoff is too low or something...usually this is a drum kit. It wouldn't make sense that it's part of the pa...

Re: Problems importing other formats to Akai S5000

Yeah I've got Translator, haven't tried it yet - but it kind of defeats the purpose when I've got the S-760 and the S5000 is supposed to "naturally" read not only Roland but E-mu as well (haven't tried importing those yet)... :|

Problems importing other formats to Akai S5000

Hi VSE folks. Been GASsing for some hardware samplers lately, so I went out and got two. Got a real bargain deal on these two: the Roland S-760 (with the DA-400 converter box, OP-760-1 extension and full RAM!) as well as the Akai S5000 (with the rare EB20 FX board!). I also got a SCSI CD-ROM drive, ...

Re: DX7II Sound Sources RAM cartridge

I vaguely recall that when using DX7 mk1 carts in the DX7II, you could read from them, but not write to them... I didn't know that. I found a message regarding this on the DX7 mailing list as well and it seems to be the case. Oh well  I guess most people with DX7-II's have the floppy ve...

DX7II Sound Sources RAM cartridge

I have a Sound Sources Unlimited SX RAM 128 cartridge. I've tried googling but there is literally almost no data available for these, so I had to post here. Here's my problem. When inserted into my DX7-IID (using the Yamaha ADP-1 adapter), pressing the [Cartridge] button gives me the "Cartridge Form...

Repairing a DX7IID

I bought a used Yamaha DX7IID. In general it's fine for its age, but it has some issues - does anyone know how these could be fixed? I haven't had the guts to open it yet...I'm guessing some of these are just dust/dirt. - The buttons work, but most/some require a heavy push to work (dirt?). - The ke...

Re: TX802 screen issue?

Hang on - so, is it faulty or by design (meaning - a poor viewing angle)? I don't think I want to start messing with resistors and trimmers.

TX802 screen issue?

I bought a vintage Yamaha TX802 late last year. All this time I've been wondering if the screen is faulty, or is the viewing angle really this poor? Example here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ue4ygqj8hqv38s6/tx802_screen.jpg When mounted in a rack right next to my keyboards (in a quite cramped workspac...

Re: Roland JV-2080

Thanks for the suggestions. I think my best bet is finding a set that includes the module as well as some expansion boards, because it seems it's more expensive buying them separately, even today. I've also considered getting the 3080 because it will also accept SRX cards...even though it is also on...

Re: POST ANY INTERESTING EBAY / CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS HERE!!!

I don't know if this has already been mentioned (probably has), but a guy called 'awakewalk' in Japan has always quite a few interesting (rare) synths for sale, usually refurbished, or in their original boxes etc. For instance, two Jupiter-8's, a Yamaha DX1 ($10k :) ), an Oberheim Xpander, multiple ...

Roland JV-2080

I've been looking at buying a hardware rack synth. Specifically, a digital hardware ROMpler, and most likely one of those old Rolands cheap on eBay. Don't ask me why, lol. (By the way, I do have a Mac filled with libraries and plugins, and also a Motif, so it isn't that...) Is the 2080 hopelessly da...

Re: Could Someone Help Me Out With A Michael Jackson Questio

What about the brief, sustained, glittery sound that opens "Another Part Of Me"? Or the bass on "Speed Demon"? Also the bass AND especially the bright brass sound on "Just Good Friends"? I remember an interview with Quincy where he said that they layered that rhythmic noise sequence/pattern on top o...

Re: Could Someone Help Me Out With A Michael Jackson Questio

Bad (the whole album) is a lot of 'Roland D50' you can here many presets. I would like someone to be more granular on which patches or tweaked patches were used on which songs. I can hear 'digital native dance' in there, some other pads etc.. and on smooth criminal the pad on the chorus sounds like...

Re: Could Someone Help Me Out With A Michael Jackson Questio

^ Instead of bothering to post something with an information value of zero, you couldn't have just pointed me in the right direction then, since you're so knowledgeable? And I'm looking for the BAD era (late 80's) info, not the earlier Thriller and OtW stuff - I know those have been discussed...

Re: Could Someone Help Me Out With A Michael Jackson Questio

I'm resurrecting this thread, because I've been heavily listening to BAD (and other late 80's, ca 1989 Quincy Jones productions) and digging how punchy and phat it (they) sounds (sound)! I was hoping someone more familiar with the synth could point out the possible D-50 sounds they might have used? ...
