Re: DCO obsession - what next?

Is it just me, or this turning into quite a complex question!!??

All I wanted was multiples of DCO->VCF->VCA rather than 2 DCOs into 1 VCF etc.

Maybe I should stop thinking such expensive and difficult thoughts!!

Re: SY-77 vs DX-7IIFD

Checking the Yamaha SY77 manual reminded me of why I bought it in the first place, if I may bring to jurys attention page 11 (PDF page 23) "Traditional FM: The AFM tone generator can be used alone to produce any sound that the DX series was capable of, and much more." Which is BS. Big sloppy BS, if ...

Using 3 microphones a 4 way mixer and a Yamaha A3000 I did the definitive toilet flush :D

Re: SY-77 vs DX-7IIFD

The thing to remember is contrary to the Yamaha manual the SY77's FM is not as good as the DX7s. Sounds wrong doesn't it? But its true!! If you try to convert a DX7 patch to the SY77 it does not sound the same, usually its radically wrong!! If the SY77 had the same FM as the DX7 this would not be th...

Crumar Bit One Noise Slider Test

Hello,

Just got a Crumar Bit One and the noise slider does not work :( Bought a new one and replaced it, but how do I test if it works? Does any one have a patch setup so only the noise slider sounds??

The manual says turn off the DCOs but is that right?

Re: Favorite synth sounds

That slow rising pitch sound at the start of "fade to grey" by Visage makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up! How about that incredible intro to "Sweet dreams" by the Eurthymics? "Cars" By Neuman obviously That cool solo done on the SY77 (patch:Ultrasaw) near the end of "Hymn" by Ultravox "W...

Crumar Bit One Missing Presets!

Hello!

I have recently (and cheaply) got a Bit 1, however it has no patches on it! Where can I get them?

Also is it a rare model I have because all the ones I have seen have black cases and this one has a wooden surround??

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore

I think last great multi purpose synth was the SY99 caus it combined the best of both worlds the famous FM synthesis they invented in its last great format with AWM2 sampled thing and you could add you own samples and use those to create voices with. Since then its all been the same sampled stuff, m...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

Modern dance music is soul-less, essentially talentless as its all done by combining samples and pre-bought dum patterns on a PC in about 10 minutes (I know a guy who creates sample CDs and club music for a living he showed me how easy it is), so no that rubbish does not keep this site alive its kil...

SY77 to DX99 EG rate converting

Having been puzzled as to why the SY77 EGR/L goes from 0 to 63 (???) where as the DX7 goes from 0 to 99, I can only assume for some bizarre reason the SY77 is using a ratio step. The reason this seems plausible is because the SY77 has full 127 MIDI velocity where as the DX7 only has 99, and 63 x 2 =...

Re: DX7s Fractional scaling - true genius

I think its the sheer range of things you can do with fractional scaling that people don't seem to be aware of, its far more than a piano sound creator. Long live FM!!

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore

I think Yamaha are responding to the "playstation" generation whereby people just want to press buttons and have great sounds rather than actually learn about how sound is made and use given tools to create something unique and special. Which is a shame, the AWM has really come in and to see an upra...
