Re: The Official 'Secrets of the Studio' Thread!
Things I learned recording my last album: 1. Basses (or maybe it's bass players) sometimes play one note in a song louder than all the others (usually an open string). This is really easy to fix with a really sharp notch in the EQ at the note and the octave above it. 2. Just because your amp has a l...

Re: Newb question about using a mixer!
Mixers can play very different roles in a rig depending on whether you are playing live or in the studio. If you are playing live, how are you set up right now? Do you have a mixing amp that you run all your keyboards into, or do you just run everything out to the venue desk? In the studio, are you ...

Re: complete newby looking to buy some gear
The juno-106 is probably popular enought that there are already custom fit hardcases out there just for it. If you can't find any, find a case sized for a synth with, what is it, 61 keys? You can usually find a way to build inserts for your case so the synth doesn't rattly around. I built little woo...

Re: What Analog Synth to Buy?
I had absolutely not heard that about the dominion x... i might be willing to let go of having a keyboard for that... That would be something of a dream. The SH-101 has just one VCO, right? Doesn't seem so hard to be knob-per-function if the entire synth basically fits on a single chip... Like I say...

Re: What Analog Synth to Buy?
If I could get my hands on anything with a schippmann filter I would pay an arm and a leg, but I don't really know how I would. :( As for modern analog, I've heard good things about the DSI Prophet, but also that construction is sub-par for an instrument in that price range? I do too much gigging an...

Re: some questions about the Alesis Q49 midi controller
You will almost certainly have no more problems with Vista talking to your Q49 than any other midi controller out there.
If you control a rack synth, you will be using a midi cable, not USB, so it will need a seperate power source.

What Analog Synth to Buy?
I have been through a few synths in my life, but right now my rig is just a full featured workstation from kurzweil, with all the sonic capabilities I need, but none of the tweaking goodness. I'm looking for a very knob-laden, somewhat portable, and possibly analog synth. I have never owned an analo...

JP-8000 Programming Help
Bought myself a used Roland JP-8000 a while back and love what I've been able to do with it in the studio, but hesitate to bring it out live because for the life of me I can't figure out how to write patches to memory without them getting erased upon restart. Whenever I overwrite the template sounds...

Re: Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...
Well, i'm basically down to the MS2000 and the JP-8000 at this point. The question i would like to ask is this: As more of a pianist than a keyboardist (thusfar, at least), my initial reaction to 4 voice polyphony is quite severe, as such a limitation on the Piano or similar instrument would be inca...

Re: Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...
I've looked at the MS200 and it looks BEAUTIFUL, but 4 voice polyphony is something of a downside for pads. :( I really do like what i've seen of the earlier roland stuff, and some of the junos look great. Is there anything that works like the ms2000 but has better polyphony? The vocoder I don't rea...

Re: Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...
The ion looks like it might not offer quite as much control, but the jp-8000, with the ribbon (which i tried at a local shop and loved), looks really cool. Thanks for the help! More would be welcome.

Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...
I'm looking buy my first synthesizer, and am quite strapped for cash. Vying for something under $600. I've done quite a bit with my big Kurzweil keys, but i can only get actual synth leads and pads out of that when i run it through Logic as a MIDI controller, which works alright, but my sound librar...
