Re: KORG Prologue
I'm liking it. Sure it's missing a few things, but that's fine with me. I enjoy simpler synths. The youtube videos sound great to me. Funny the Trident has been brought up here, as the analogue side of it reminds of one, only clean. The Trident, even without the flanger is pretty noisy, at least min...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)
[quote="Jabberwalky"]Questions: 1) The synth that made you want to play music: At the time I had little to know idea what synths were being used in the music I was influenced by. In retrospect Odyssey, Minimoog, Jupiter 8 and various string machines like Solina, Performer, SS30. 2) Your first synth:...

Re: Piano house synth
Hi, neither piano sounds particularly unusual to me, and I agree that the first in particular has been produced to sound flatter/duller. The second one is a bit loud and bright to me. As for the source of the sound, if you want that late 80s / early 90s M1 piano, get an M1. Korg made a software vers...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I got to play with one of these yesterday, but despite having every intention of doing so I didn't buy it. Don't get me wrong I had Christmas morning like anticipation heading to the store. The Odyssey was a big synth of choice for my musical 'heroes', so I really wanted to like it, but I had some r...

Re: Axxe vs New Odyssey
Vintage does not automatically equal character. For example, your CS5. It's not great, is it? Certainly not as characterful as your Minibrute or the new MS20. Or a vintage MS20. Or the Novation Bass Station II. I've played all those and they're wonderful. I haven't tried the KARP yet, but I'd imagi...

Axxe vs New Odyssey
A no-brainer I hear you all say?? I'm fully aware of the difference in features, so I'm just wondering if anyone thinks the fact that the Axxe is a genuine vintage synth counts. Not to mention the full-size keys and that they're a bit cheaper.

Re: Prophet 6
I wasn't expecting that, I'll be very interested if the price isn't stupid. Hopefully in the same region as a prophet 08. I much prefer this (and Moog's) take on the old instrument to the MS20 / Odyssey mini versions.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
As a long time Ultravox fan, I was really looking forward to this. I was hoping against the odds that Korg wouldn't go down the route of the MS20. Alas they have, well apart from the price, at just over 900GBP will mean 1200 euro. That's twice the price of an MS20 mini, and forgetting the history of...

Re: What got you started into synthesizers?
Simple really, my favorite music from when I was a kid in the early to mid eighties, which strangely enough wasn't by full-on synth acts, however the synths were a big part. Ultravox with that Odyssey lead, Duran with those Crumar Strings and Numan with that Polymoog lead. Kraftwerk deserve a mentio...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I really hope it's full size, even if it costs a bit more. I also wouldn't mind (once done right) if the design was modernised, like a Voyager OS or Fiat 500 (the car :D ), both are modern whilst visually capturing the essence of the originals (IMHO). I'd personally base it on the black/orange model...

Re: Is the synthesizer simply an "improved" form of piano ??
They both have keys that sound a note when pressed. However a synth is a synth and a piano is a piano, so no!

Re: Alpha Juno Owners and the Decisions We Have to Make
I don't have a PG300, as you say it's too expensive. I have a free editor that works fine on the mac, however I still tend to programme it from the synth. I like my alpha, but it's no 106, programmer or no programmer.
