Re: Tangerine Dream - what synth is this?
Thank you Stephen for that awesome inside info. This thread makes me smile. Anyway, I've found doing this on modular (euro) to be rather complex but approachable. The sequencing, ok, got it. But achieving those F*CKING huge sounds and flowing arrangements that TD was putting out in droves those earl...

Re: HxC SDcard on Emulator II
I have the same one, it's great. I have a switch installed to select between the HxC drive B or the physical drive B. It seems to work well switching between them while powered on. I haven't downloaded the latest update - it looks like there have been some big improvements to the firmware this month.

Re: Ensoniq TS10 custom transwave
Thanks for your help. Okay maybe I was looking in the wrong place and this is not defined directly in the synth. The documentation for Tranzilon says: "The transwave that is generated by Tranzilon will consist of 100 waveforms, starting with the upper-waveform, and slowely transforming into the lowe...

Ensoniq TS10 custom transwave
I'm trying to make a sample loaded into a TS10 into a transwave. I can get the sample in and treat it as a normal sample but as far as telling the synth I want it to be a transwave, I haven't figured out. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Studio electronics Boomstar?
This offering looks great, I love SE stuff. It's great that so many non-menu driven monos are being released right now, with CV even. For many of us, this is where it's been at all along. But what is causing Moog, Arturia, Macbeth and now SE to fuel a more widespread renaissance in 2012?

Re: Modular recommendations
i went with modcan a instead and i could not be happier! bananas are truly the much better connector - you don't have to break your path just to mult,, for one - in every way for modulars, imho. much more robust contact area. more reliable. dead-easy and cheap to make and repair yourself. they feel...

Re: Modular recommendations
Those Toppobrillo modules are euro, correct? I'm planning 5U but I'd certainly like to hear if anyone here has strong opinions about which format is best overall with respect to price, ease of mounting, selection, creative potential, etc. And is there anything besides midi<>CV and mixer modules you ...

Re: Modular recommendations
Thanks. The STG mixer is just the type of thing I'm looking for and I'm considering that LPG clone as well. And yes, I'll be sure to get lots of LFO's, EG's, and such. I like the idea of soldering some stuff up myself. Especially because it's easy to sneak small parts past the wife. Those little Mou...

Modular recommendations
I'm planning a 44 space dot com system and looking for 5U modules to help give me some enhanced tonal capability. The type of sounds I'm most interested in generating are fairly traditional synth bass, soft distortion, short sequenced notes, Moogy leads, etc. Perhaps the opposite end of the spectrum...

I think it's just a computer made conceptual rendering. After all, it is levitating.
Perhaps the whole thing is part of some college students study of DIY technology hype and we are the subjects of analysis.

Re: packing synths for 2-way shipment
Thanks for the input. I recently sent a Doepfer Regelwerk from WI to CA. I wrapped it very tightly in bubblewrap - many layers, perhaps 4 inches on every side. On arrival it was discovered by the tech that one of the fader handles broke. Also one of the corners of the unit was dented (I found this w...

packing synths for 2-way shipment
Regarding the shipment of synthesizers for repair, I'm wondering about transporting them in ATA cases vs cardboard. I just double boxed an Emulator and it was quite a project. It may even be a pain for the tech to get it back in the box considering all the foam pieces I cut and taped to protect the ...

Re: Tangerine Dream - what synth is this?
Thanks for such detailed info on that gear. To me, that particular sequence sounds a bit different than other things from that era. And from your description the gear is the same. So I'm not sure what it is. Maybe just Michael Mann's influence creeping in. An MC8 was in use on Risky Business. And cu...

Tangerine Dream - what synth is this?
What is playing the chuffy staccato sequence that starts about 2 minutes into this track and comes and goes throughout? I'm not even sure if it's analog or a sample of some sort. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqEujUKoi9Q There is something similar in this track, only slower in tempo: http://www.you...

Re: good softsynth for making kick drum sounds
By the questions your asking, I can tell you're going to be doing the right kinds of experiments. I wouldn't say there is a particular best practice for this sort of thing. I've had great experiences using 808 kicks and other times it's just been the wrong thing. Same with thickening samples by way ...
