Re: Why so subtractive?

Part of the reason that "subtractive (a term many of you know I despise because of its inaccuracy)" synthesis is popular is that the human voice is subtractive. Oh for f**k's sakes, take a basic course in electronics. I have a good laugh at most of your posts, but this one almost makes me feel emba...

Re: Why analog?

Bottom line: all musicians are wankers. Regardless of what instrument they play (yours truly included), the ends to the means is to produce a self serving, self gratifying experience. Add to the mix a nasty bit of exhibitionism and here we all are. The only difference between a successful "money sho...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!

I don't know about you vintage guys but I think this new board is amazing. It offers sounds that I've been trying to recreate for years with my current gear and to me it sounds fantastic. Nice video. The board sounds great to me too, but I prefer different name than the Jupiter. May be something li...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!

P.S. I am going to have to turn in my analog aficionado card, as I don't give a s**t about Jupiters, and don't care even a little bit about this synth's functionality or mode of tone generation. I hope the huge and childishly bitching tribe of VSE members who have glutted this thread with demands a...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!

All I'm saying is that I like what this synth has to offer. If I'm wrong in your eyes, well then, so be it. Hey, I'm the guy who preferred a Korg Polysix over a Moog system 35 (I'm sure AG would have something to say about that  ). And you'd be wrong. I would be sorely challenged to care any ...

Re: Quick Question: Arp Axxe

All ARPs will need work eventually, even if they were well taken care of. You owned an Axxe and know what it can do, so unless you really need that sound again I'd recommend that you pass on this and save up for your modular.

Then again, nostalgia is a difficult Mistress to ignore.

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!

Why does every post about a new synth sound like it's coming from a hot flashing crone that hasn't been laid in years? Damn, you guys sound like you're seriously missing d**k in a bad way. The Jupiter 80 isn't meant to lick your sagging dried out cunts, but rather, to provide a modern synth for thos...

Re: getting too caught up in tech

I usually don't have time to get caught up in just the tech side of things since I'm always jumping from one instrument to another. I always start out by playing the drums for at least 4 songs that I'm working on. Once those tracks completed and to my liking, I begin on the guitar rhythm tracks. Nex...

Re: Yellowed Alesis Ion keys?

Huh. And here's another Ion on eBay with the same discoloration: http://cgi.ebay.com/Alesis-Ion-Analog-Modeling-Synth_W0QQitemZ290492907050QQ I dunno, this is kinda odd. Those keys are just a little uglier than the one's on my friend's Ion look, but I'm not all that worried. They still have a nice ...

Re: Yellowed keys?

This is interesting. The Ion I'll be buying from a friend also has yellowed keys. He's not a smoker and has kept the board in his studio since he bought it new. Aside from the discoloration the synth works perfectly.

I wonder if this is common with this particular set of keys Alesis used?

Re: Artists' "Signature" Synth Sounds

What's wrong with using a sound that's close to some artist's signature sound? Do pianists worry about their pianos sounding like someone else's? I understand that you don't want to use someone's exact SAME sound, but seriously, despite the huge pallet available with synthesizers there is a limited ...
