Re: Choosing TR8 and TB3 over TR808/909 and TB303
I agree with Bitexion. It appears his tool choices are based on utility and what is most convenient for him. According to a Nov2012 interview he had totally transitioned to software - Reason in particular. He even mentions replacing his 303 with Rebirth. http://news.traxsource.com/articles/105/in-th...

Here's an image of the full photo. DSM stands for Digital Musical Synthesizer. http://www.dickmartini.ca/vse/SonyDSM320.jpg The photo comes from an October 1981 article in the SMPTE Journal by Toshi Doi and Heitaro Nakajima titled "Digital Audio Formats for Recording and Digital Communication". I'm hearing $949 US and cartridges $99 US a piece. Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on this. Very exciting indeed.somebedroomdj wrote:Ok, this thing will be pretty awesome if they can stay at $1000 or lower and if the carts don't cost too much.

Re: HUGE MOOG MUSIC NEWS COMING MONDAY
Congratulations Moog for a bold move and the release of such beautiful high quality modulars and for making it possible for those who do appreciate what you have built here the chance to own something as previously unattainable as a real Moog 55. They are a high-end product so they are expensive an...

Re: So I took the C64 plunge
Congrats! I also have the C64/Atari/Amiga MIDI bug and started scouring used computer stores for hardware and software. I've managed to find a number of C64s and diskdrives in good working order as well as picked up three old C64 interfaces - a CLab, a Syntech and a Passport Designs. Haven't done to...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
One reason a company quickly pushes out a news release early on is because of a potential leak. I've been on both sides of the conversation when the media calls with a rumor and the company makes the decision to put out a news release before someone else releases the news. And then go quiet until th...

Re: Versatile and favorite sequencers: What's yours?
I'm a huge fan of Akai MPC units, especially newer ones fitted with hard drives / CF card slots. (No messing with stupid floppy disks!). You and Matia have convinced me to give an MPC a go. I've been looking for a hardware sequencer and even the Alesis MMT8 wasn't floating my boat. Not sure I need ...

Re: Vintage Synth adverts
Kind of strange to emphasize their two biggest competitors in caps at the very start of the ad. Those are the names in the industry that will attract the reader's attention to the ad. Also, when your competitors rank higher than you or don't you have the name recognition that your competitor has, i...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
Aaron2, Princefan3 - my audio recording doesn't do either machines justice, but I get the same first impression about the cymbals. You can't hear the BOOOOM of the bass drum from either machine, but its there in the headphones. Maybe over the weekend I'll have time to get deeper into programming. Do...

Re: Vintage Synth adverts
Yorgatron - thanks for sharing my blog link! And Griffin Avid - agreed - the ads in both vintage and newer mags are great. For me its the logos - Moog. ARP. Oberheim especially. And the artwork - like in that SCI ad above. John Mattos was the artist for a lot of those classic Prophet SCI ads. Really...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
Just picked up my TR8 and TB3 (Canada). Made a quick vid of the comparison between the old and the new. Not the best -still learning how to video record properly with audio directly out of the mixer. But, its something. And I have to say my first impressions are quite positive. The worst thing about...
