Re: Samples, Reverb, Software - oh my (help please)
Thank you guys for all the info - I really think I'm going to purchase Logic at this point and do all I can to learn it. Maybe down the road I can throw in some plug-ins. About the sampler included in Logic...does it allow to apply all kinds of effects to the samples? Can I chop them up? Or is it ex...

Samples, Reverb, Software - oh my (help please)
I don't use software for much of anything except to record the final product, but I'm starting to reconsider all the hardware effect units and possibly give those up in favor of using software. Below are videos of Holy Other - his use of reverb on vocal samples is just absolutely awesome to me, and ...

Night Talk - Modern New Age
Finished up a 6 song set this weekend...it's a bit of a modern take on new age I suppose....though a lot more bass than you'd find on an '80s new age tape! Below I've embedded the full set of six, so if you let it play through it'll cycle all six tracks. They're about 32 minutes in all. http://sound...

Re: Name ONE favorite pedal (+more)
MXR Bluebox. On the recording below I ran a guitar through the bluebox, then into a DL4. The bluebox just gives my guitar a very certain tone that I LOVE. It can go really ugly in a split second, so it took awhile to find the right spot..but now I have that perfect gritty, ugly sound I love without ...

Re: Garageband Add Ons
Anyone have any suggestions on audio unit plugins for mellotron? Free. I know M-Tron Pro is the best one out if you want to pay - but surely there's a free version somewhere I'm just not coming up with on google or yahoo? Also - any good samplers or manglers of sorts that are audio units? Free too, ...

Krautdisco & Krautrock Jams
Friday night I recorded some acoustic drum tracks, then put some mono evolver and arp quartet over them till I couldn't stay awake any longer. Let me know what you think...other than the obvious that they need to be mixed better! http://soundcloud.com/rharris/dance-power http://soundcloud.com/rharri...

Re: microKORG vs. Akai MINIAK
From personal experience - I would stand by the microkorg every day of the week. It is one of the most useful synths I've ever owned.

Re: How far out of your way have you gone to get a synth?
5 hours round trip for me - but I picked up a SCI Six-Trak and DrumTrak for $550 total from the original owner. Even came with the original price-tag from the '80s!

Re: What synth have you been using a lot lately?
I've been using the Indigo 2 for a lot of things...it's so nice to throw filters and effects over a patch on the fly, and then add in some FM for crunch. This is the easiest synth for live play that I've ever messed with, and because of that I tend to use it a whole lot.

new music for guitar and synth (fizmo, indigo)
These are some new tracks I was able to record recently. I used a guitar with a loop pedal, a fizmo and an indigo2. I'd love some feedback on them if anyone finds them interesting or has some criticism on them. This is the very first time I've ever really used guitar for anything in my recordings......

Re: The Lost Cave - Halloween/Horror/Lofi EP on Bandcamp
thanks guys - really appreciate the feedback what do you use to sample to? are you using a daw for the whole thing or hardware? I'm a big fan of hardware - usually its the roland SP555 and SP505, but i just got an MV8800 and that was the workhorse on this one. It has a VGA monitor and mouse though ...

Re: The Lost Cave - Halloween/Horror/Lofi EP on Bandcamp
what do you use to sample to? are you using a daw for the whole thing or hardware? Thanks for the feedback. On this one I used a lot of older (mostly pre 80s) movies, usually horror/scifi/kungfu type stuff. Stuff that ends up on those 50 movie packs for 10 dollars types...drums are usually a mix of ...

Re: The Lost Cave - Halloween/Horror/Lofi EP on Bandcamp
That is a really great album to chill out to - I enjoyed it a lot this evening. What do you use for your samples? Can I ask where/how you've found them? I've always wanted to get into sampling but i just do not have the time to actually do it number one, and i don't really know where to start number...

Re: layering drums
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LacbQ4Lh7wk This Holy Other track is a really great example of good taste in layering drums. This doesn't mean everyone will agree with me, I'm just saying that he does a really good job at the Art of Noise approach where he layers various kinds of electronic drum sam...

Acousmatrix. Great box set of vintage electronic music. Most of it is probably tape looping stuff, but I'm sure there is some synth stuff in there too.
