Aimee Mann on Austin City Limits
Was watching this performance today - some very cool songs, but what really struck me is that I'd never seen a band quite like this one before: Five pieces: 1. Acoustic guitar + vocals 2. Bass guitar + backing vocals 3. Drums 4. Hammond, organs, etc 5. Piano, Rhodes and Minimoog Voyager The reason I...

Re: Lead sound breakdown
oo I had never heard or Eric Norlander until I viewed this thread. He's a contemporary "master of the MiniMOOG" -- a slightly less technical, yet more accessible, Keith Emerson -- and he was born the same year as me. I really like his mix of MiniMOOG, A6 Andromeda, Hammond M3 organ, and Mellotron o...

Lead sound breakdown
I'm looking for some help in creating something similar to the Minimoog lead sound at 0:33 in this video
I know I need to experiment, but if someone could give me a nudge in terms of waveforms, modulations, etc. it would be helpful.

Re: Which synth for 'prog rock' analog sounds?
Scratchy pots and sliders (due to the usual foam goop problem) and the switch in the CV-in jack wasn't closing properly, causing it to only play a single pitch regardless of the key pressed.

Re: Which synth for 'prog rock' analog sounds?
Picked up a 'broken' MG-1 for $250 on Ebay - an hour of tweaking later, and everything's working fine
Sounds great, too! I think I'll spend the next two days listening to filter sweeps

Re: Has anyone poly chained little phatties???!!!
Hrm, at that price maybe I should give up my quest for a Rogue and just get a LP.soundxplorer wrote:Yeah, $800 is not uncommon for a used one, especially if it is an original Stage model. People always want the latest version. I can do without USB though.

Re: Which synth for 'prog rock' analog sounds?
It's very tempting to grab a Moog Rogue or MG-1 on EBay - they seem to be consistently going for $450 or so.

Re: Which synth for 'prog rock' analog sounds?
Haha, I should have known that I'd get more options rather than narrowing down my list
Thanks for the input guys, I'll try to get my hands on the JP-8000 and Nova to demo.

Which synth for 'prog rock' analog sounds?
I know, I know, first post is a "help me find a synth!" post I primarily play guitar and bass, and I'd like to start taking keys a bit more seriously. My only experience on keys is piano lessons as a kid and messing around with a Roland Alpha Juno a few years ago. I'm into the whole "prog rock" thin...
