Re: The Joys of Hardware Sequencers (Story/Rant/Endorsement)

I have to side with Alex E here and say that as soon as I got Ableton Live, I never looked back. I do, however, use it like a hardware sequencer. I have two computers in my studio, a desktop where I host a few VST's and use as a multitrack recorder, and a laptop with Ableton that I use as the sequen...

I just might do that once I get some bills taken care of.

Re: so who's shelled out for an iPad?

Alesis has just announced their iPad SudioDock Pro that looks pretty sweet. I am going to wait for a couple reviews, but it might just be the piece of gear that will push me over the edge to get one. I really like a lot of the synth apps, like iMS-20, Rebirth, and Jasuto, but have always wanted some...

Re: Synths for Minimal Acid.

I am going to go on the record for a couple of the items mentioned here. As a previous owner of both the EA-1 and the ER-1, I will vouch for them with much gusto. I got them when I had no idea about what I was going to do, and therefore, got rid of them because I didn't understand their purpose in m...

Re: Access Virus or GAIA?

Thanks for the input. I actually got a wicked deal on a Mopho Keyboard, so I am going that route, but I am pretty sure I still want a Virus. It will have to wait a bit, but it is most certainly the next synth I will get, baring a wicked deal on something better.

Re: Alesis ipad studio dock

Hmmm....If this works with the iMS-20 and Filtertron app, I might just have to make an investment. I can see this in my live, and even my studio, setup. Especially live. I love the idea of the Lemur and the hands on control that you can have, but the price has always been a bit prohibative...well......

Access Virus or GAIA?

I am looking to get a new synth with some belated Christmas money/tax money. I mainly make electronic based rock or heavier electronica (NIN, VNV Nation, Prodigy). I use Reason and EZDrummer with the Electronic EZX add-on for drums. Synth-wise, I use some Reason, but mainly use a Microkorg or the Ar...

Re: Drum vst recommendations?

I have been using a combination of EZDrummer with the Electronic add-on and Reason's Kong and Redrum. You can generally get EZDrummer and the add-on for cheap at Guitar Center when they are on sale (that's what I did). I like the EZDrummer stuff because it comes with MIDI loops, so you can use them ...

PAiA 9700 Modular

My father, as a late Christmas present, is building me a PAiA 9700 modular kit (he is an electronics engineer and is probably enjoying building the synth as much as I will enjoy playing it). Is there anything special about this modular that I need to know? I have been wanting one for quite a while a...

Re: What got you into synths?

It was a combination of being a child of a young parent in the 80's and listening to trance from the late 90's. It all came to head when a friend of mine, who owned a studio, gave me Reason as a birthday present. It took a while for me to get into hardware synths as I was mainly a guitar player at t...

Re: What are you buying yourself for Christmas ?

I got a Focusrite Saffire 24 Pro, a pair of Mackie MR5's, a MicroKorg (used for $150) and a Korg Monotron. I didn't really need the interface, but I wanted to have something with some more outs than the Audio Kontrol 1 that I have been using for a year. The ADAT input is nice, too. I really needed t...

Re: Korg Electribe EA-1

For the money, I'd say go for it. I got mine for twice that. It isn't at all my main synth, but I like running some stuff through it just to see if something peaks my interest. I run MIDI tracks out of Live into it, which is nice because you have both voices to work with.

Re: Are the old Electribes getting more expensive/respected?

As someone who has just been getting into the hardware synth thing after years of playing guitar and bass and dabbling in Reason, as well as just having bought both an EA1 and ER1, it is interesting to read all this. I am quite enjoying the ER1. I am not using either for live use (at least not right...

Re: it has begun... (customizing my alesis ion)

Very much looking forward to this. I think that the color scheme is going to rock with the red lights on the Ion. I just got a MS2000R and it is a little damaged from an apparent drop by the previous owner. I am thinking it might be cool to re-paint it something awesome.

Re: Maybe I'm not as strange as I thought...

For us it started out as a gig here and there at Starbuck's. I have played there with three different groups with varying levels of acoustic-ness (if that is a word...). i have also met various buyers and sellers of gear there since it is a neutral public place. Then, one day my friend called and s...
