Re: 2012 "Year of the Monosynth"

From what I gather the Magma is a SH-101 with 3 parameter sequencer built in?

Re: Digital vs analog synths synthesizer in a few sentences?

They create sounds differently, and they sound different. Neither sound better, but they both excel at different sounds. And even though synth nerds might be the only ones who can really tell the difference, one will do the right job for the sound your after and people who won't be able to tell the ...

Todd Terje - It's the Arps

Anyone listen to his new EP yet? Not an entirely original concept (doing a whole release using only one synthesizer, in this case an ARP 2600), but the result is amazing. I would recommend checking it out.

Re: Your Rig---but 20 Years Ago

I can really only go back 10 years. In 2001, I was 15. I had Fruity Loops on a Sony laptop, I believe some sort of M-Audio interface, and really had no idea what I was doing...

Re: list of synths with cv/gate out

Yes the standard Cat has CV/Gate outs. I had an original version (non-SRM) and it had them both on a stereo jack. Anyway you can also add - Voyetra-8 Polymoog This is kind of a silly list though. A shorter list would be pre-MIDI analog synths without CV/Gate outs... Yes, mine is the non-SRM and it ...

Re: roland jx8p automation in ableton live

I'm not sure if you can. I'm pretty sure Ableton only automates CC parameters and the JX-8P uses SYSEX commands. I believe there are CC->SYSEX converters available that will make it happen. You can also use the Patch Editor by Kiwi Technics, it easily allows you to control your JX-8P with CC commands.

Re: calling good digital sounds "analog"

Using analog synths to make digital-esque sounds can have it's benefits. For example, using the Juno 60 arpeggiator to get an almost 8-bit style sound, using FM features in analog synths can also give you sounds that are almost digital. There are other examples too, such as the airy bell-like synth ...

Re: Moog new "Little Secret"

I can't find any information on this question anywhere...so I'll ask here... Does anyone know if they plan on having it interface with other moog synths? It would be really cool if you could send midi information from the animoog to a voyager or little phatty that does more than play notes. I think ...

All Hazards - California Soul EP

Hey everyone, My duo just released our debut EP, titled "California Soul." It mixes French house, disco, electro, and big beat. We are self releasing it under our label Planetarium for free on the web. For the production we used 60s/70s record samples, Moog Voyager, Octave Cat, Roland MKS-80, Roland...

Re: great SH-101-driven tracks

Are you referring to the wow wow wowwowo lead line? Or the acid line mid-way through? The wow lead is just a slow attack, not portamento. Yeah I was referring to the wow lead. I swear the big jump between the end and beginning of the sequence causes a slight glide but you could be right about it ju...

Re: great SH-101-driven tracks

No. Some say its an MS-20, others a Juno-106. I personally think its a 106 run through an Electro-Harmonics distortion pedal. I was able to get this sound almost perfect when i had a 106 a few years ago. But there's portamento on it. Doesn't the 106 not have portamento? I've also heard it might be ...

I believe that "Da Funk" by Daft Punk features an SH-101 through distortion for the lead synth.

Re: recording/clipping

Spot on. asoh, I would be slow to dismiss any kind of distortion- all sounds have their place. That is true, if distortion is the intended effect. I don't disagree with that at all. What I am trying to say is that pushing digital signals beyond their limits (ie clipping) is a lot more noticeable an...
