Re: 3d printed replacement parts for synths
I went this route when I needed a slider cap for an ARP mixer. It took two iterations before I got a version to fit great on the slider shaft. I had to sand and paint the slider to get it to look great. Skipping the sanding/painting step will save costs. Battery covers are a great idea. You'll need ...

Re: Korg 01/Wfd vs trinity vs triton
I've had an 01W since buying it new in '93. I briefly owned a TR Rack (same as Trinity) earlier this year. In my opinion The TR Rack is a big improvement over the 01W. Pianos and EPs are WAY better on the TR Rack.

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths
But yeah, there's really no excuse in this day and age for someone just doing a casual garage/attic sweepout to not check prices. It's so easy that not doing so crosses into general laziness/irresponsibility and I'd highly argue against taking advantage of that making the buyer a "selfish d***." I'...

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths
If it was a pawn shop I'd pay the asking price and zip out the door as quickly as possible. They're running a business and if they can't be bothered to figure out the true value then that's fine with me. But in dealing with an old person who's selling on behalf of a family member, I'd try to be as f...

Re: Prophet 6
Unison detuning was glossed over in the Sonic State video. In the demo video by PluginGuru last week he shows that turning the slop knob when in unison mode will change the amount that the oscillators are detuned from each other. The effect was pronounced and sounded good to me.

Re: I've stumbled upon some synths
You don't sound daft at all. In fact, I can tell you're probably a person of great intelligence and style. It's too bad that you're burdened with those crappy old synths. They don't even have built-in digital effects or supersaws. Gah! Now, here's what I'm gonna do for you because you seem like a ni...

Re: GOOD LOOP PEDAL FOR SYNTHS
I believe that the Pigtronix Infinity allows you to specify fade or no-fade at the ends of loops. You can check their manual online. You might also want to check their site for a list of features in their latest firmware which was released a couple of months ago. The Boss RC-505 definitely allows yo...

Re: TR8 lighting front panel
For me the TR-8 lighting isn't too bad. But the System-1 lighting kills my vision in the dark. I've designed a set of rings that can be placed around the System-1 knobs to cut off the glare while still allowing them to be illuminated. The prototype parts arrived here just a few minutes ago. I'm anxi...

Re: March competition '15: New age-dolphin-crystal-healing s
This sounds like fun! I have an 01W with the Ethnic expansion card. I'll just record a few sustained notes on a half dozen presets, layer them on top of each other and call it a day. It's so easy to slip into new age territory when playing the 01W. I usually try to make sure nobody else catches me a...

Re: Just bought 2 Synths + Tr-8
Fx are crucial to getting a wide pallette of sounds, and for getting sounds to 'gel' together in a mix...it's like baking a cake: the synth and drums provide foundation/structural body, and the fx are the frosting on top and between layers put aside $500-1000 and get a phaser pedal(small stone up t...

Re: new VERMONA 14 synthesizer
On looks alone it reminds me of the CS-15. Nice set of features. It would have been really interesting with a multi-mode filter. I don't plan on buying one, but it would be fun to play one some day.

Re: Prophet 6
Looking at my P8 with its haywire endless encoders which I am yet to get fixed... Tempest (from the forum) still seems buggy... Any one else nervous? ;) Nah. Not me. The P08 encoder issue was solved years ago. And besides, I assume that the P6 uses pots since that would be necessary to enable the f...

Re: How do you have your gear hooked up?
You mention noise as the reason you disconnect/reconnect when recording into your computer. You might be able to reduce noise by careful gain staging. If possible, all of your mixer controls should be set at unity gain, which means that the mixer isn't boosting or cutting any of your signals. My Mac...
