Re: New DSI instrument!

I don't know if we'll have priority as a mod destination... only because I don't know how easy that will be to do in realtime and exactly how it would work. I'll think about it. I won't have time to visit this really until OS 2.0 though. The morphing thing is my idea (one of many that I think is gon...

Re: New DSI instrument!

There are 5 of us total at DSI, not including Roger Linn who contributed a lot on the Tempest project. In a nutshell it's just Dave and I on the tech side of things: Dave does all the hardware design and maintaining his old code, I do all the new firmware and the OS stuff nowadays. Everybody in the ...

Re: New DSI instrument!

You'd rather not be able to morph between the two layers of sounds? 32 Sounds gives us a ton of flexibility for cool features... just have a little faith =) I'd call it a good way to save $2000 :D Pym- 32 sounds seems like quite a bit imo; any chance there would be a way to have the end user decide ...

Re: New DSI instrument!

You will have outboard sequencing capabilities in version 1.0. You can assign a pad to a MIDI channel and will be able to control velocity, pitch, duration and 4 assignable CCs per sequence. I don't have any hard numbers on number of tracks. It will probably be limited by how many steps you actually...

Re: New DSI instrument!

Absolutely. Sounds are saved by themselves and inside the kit and beat structures. A kit consists of 16 (or 32 sounds, haven't decided) and all the mixer settings (volume, pan, mute/solo, delay on/off and delay send amount for each sound). A beat consists of the kit settings plus the sequencer and m...

Re: New DSI instrument!

Goldbaby and FXPansion were pretty much in my top 5 choices of sample companies to work with, super excited that they were kind enough to donate samples to our cause. I'm happy to answer questions on the Tempest if you have anything specific, although do check the threads at gearslutz and the dsifor...

Re: New Mopho OS

Those will be in the Tetra OS I find point 1, 2 and 5 on mopho update a GOOD idea, so I hope it's for the tetra too... Check out the threads at http://prophet5.org for more info on the Tetra OS as it develops. It's a much, much more complicated overhaul than the Mopho code. The backend was put into ...

Re: DSI MEK/Mopho = Pro One, PEK/P08 = Prophet 5, Prophet VS

Don't expect to see an updated Evolver or any new direct derivatives of the Prophet voice now (eg. no Tetra keyboard). Time to do something new! Of course the analog side will be using the Curtis chip for a while since Dave knows it inside and out and can crank out voice boards quick with it. We're ...

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*

I studied computer engineering in college and ended up more on the system admin side of things so I used languages like perl and C, gave me a good background. Moving into firmware from there takes time, but you use a lot of the same principles. The biggest headache is going through data sheets... ug...

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*

There are pros and cons to each of these issues... you have to remember that the MIDI protocol over the traditional serial ports are REALLY SLOOOOWWWW. An NRPN takes a minimum of 2 MIDI packets per change and up to 4 MIDI packets if you're using higher resolution. On a traditional MIDI port that mea...

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*

Yeah, that's one of the problems in a very small company, the time spent automating or streamlining stuff often isn't worth the effort. If we put the effort into hardware test platform it's time we couldn't put into a product that we would be making money off of (and be really cool and fun to work o...

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*

This is another one of those things that in theory would be awesome, but starting to look down the road to getting there is a lot of work to setup, get rolling, and maintain. If it was something like an Arduino based backend it would be more likely that we could do something like that, since it's re...

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*

Hey guys, I'll try and check this board out when I can and answer questions, starting now! The pots are sampled by a 10-bit ADC on the main PIC processor but we're only using 8 bits, converting to stepped values per the parameter the pot is assigned to in the processor. Using a higher resolution res...
