Re: Your latest musical purchase

Picked up a Roland D-110 at the Yokohama Ishibashi for about $38. Gave it a new CR2032 battery and good to go. It’s amazing what these budget synths (or for that matter just about anything) sound like run through modern effects! But man, the manual... Took a while until things clicked. Scored a Korg...

Re: Suggestions for deserted island synth

hmmm, a Prophet 5 would require quite a modification, stuffing a digital sequencer with 10k+ note memory, FX and multi-timbrality into it. Heresy!

Re: Suggestions for deserted island synth

No grand pianos in my future! Though that would be nice.

Re: Suggestions for deserted island synth

Thanks for the ideas! I need to stick to 61 keys or under due to some luggage restrictions with some of the airlines I'm forced to take... And I don't necessarily need resonant filters (TS-10), but they would be nice for some things. Gonna go look at V-Synth.

That organ's not big enough...

Suggestions for deserted island synth

Tried the synth finder... Let's narrow it down some! I'll be working onboard a ship soon, where space is at a premium. I want to avoid software if possible (the reason being I'm having a hard time considering a laptop as musical). Would like a multi-timbral synth workstation with FX that allows for ...

Re: XL-7 vs. QY100 vs. EMX/ESX-1 or...?

MBF, thanks for the info! Would you say that a QY100 w/ power supply in good condition would be a good deal @ $225? At the Ishibashi music stores here in Japan, they are always available second hand. So maybe the Japanese don't care for them so much, or maybe they are dated. Though they seem like th...

BG, thank you for your very insightful response! Can the EMX sequence an external synth via it's 5 mono synth parts? Or is it only internal?

XL-7 vs. QY100 vs. EMX/ESX-1 or...?

So I recently scored a Juno 6 and I've been blown away by the 'hands-on'-ness of it, and it's highlighting how much working music with a computer is a drag (even with a Novation 61SL). Synth menus are also a drag... It would be nice to have the Juno's ease of use when composing/playing my music (dar...

Hooray for me! (Roland Juno 6)

Just scored a Juno 6 from a music shop in Shinjuku, Japan for $225. I wonder why it was that cheap... It's in excellent condition, all voices work, and it sounds great! I've been using mostly softsynths up until now, and they sound great, but man! Being able to control each dedicated parameter is so...
