Hi Rasputin. I'm collecting a few custom patches of mine for just that purpose. I'm hoping to get that together in the upcoming weekend.
On a related thread, I've been testing the new firmware, and it's really fantastic!

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
This is fantastic news! I'll head over to TaunTek in a moment. I'm happy to beta test. While I don't have a lot of time, I am technical and methodical, so I'll keep an eye open for any potential bugs.
Thanks Bob and Rasputin!

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
Interesting. Would this program work for any WAVE file from a tape dump of a synth, like say a SH-101, or is the binary it outputs AX80 specific? I work largely on Macs, but I imagine that I could recompile your code to work on a Mac. I've haven't worked with Ctrlr yet. I understand why you'd get bo...

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
Sorry, I don't have access to an EPROM burner presently, and my AX80 is a Rev K. I *think* the Rev K's are the ones with the shiny wooden side pieces, and the other revision are the ones with the tolex looking side pieces. When you say that you've programmed a decoder/encoder, do you mean a desktop ...

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
I had always assumed that David Cockerell had something to do with the AX80, but it looks like you may be looking for 'Tamaki San'. Long shot, but it seems that Toshio Tamaki has an Etsy page and a Twitter: https://www.etsy.com/people/toshio , https://twitter.com/september3030 Anyone know him or th...

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
Problem is keys with no sound. It is always 8 keys apart. Are you testing this by playing random things or are you always testing the keyboard chromatically? I ask because it would behave like that if one voice was out and you were just going up (or down) the keyboard one note at a time. If you pla...

While perusing the internets today, I ran into the service manual on archive.org here. This scan is a bit more complete (and in color) than the other copy I have. Happy fixing!

You could use Sysex Librarian on a Mac (free).
I still have a functioning copy of SoundDiver on OSX 10.6 that allows me to do more complicated rearranging of patches, path renaming, etc.

Re: Logic / computer corrupting sysex (?)
+1 on the thanks. I've had similar problems, which I had thought was a buggy MIDI interface. Somehow, a bunch of patch names got corrupted as well on my Virus. Ugh.

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
I looked a little bit at this over the weekend. Looking at the service manual, there are two 7811G’s - one for key assignment, and the other for ‘program/frequency table’ (IC1 and IC2). I opened my AX80 to confirm, and indeed they are both there, but unfortunately, both aren’t socketed, so it would ...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Mini keys or not, my mind is blown. I've had so many ARP deals fall through over the years, and even looked at cloning an Odyssey at one point (before concluding it was too much work), so this fantastic. Being able to play one live without the fear of losing/destroying a vintage synth is also a big ...

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
Welcome to the board! I fear such an extensive re-thinking might exceed the value of the synth. Thanks! I've been away for some time, and it's good to be back. I'm not necessarily worried about the value of the synth (I paid almost nothing for mine); it's more that I like using the synth a lot, but...

Re: AX-80 O.S. hacking co-op?
I had started to map out features that I would want for a project like this, but have been seriously sidetracked in life! I was imagining a drop-in CPU replacement that could add the following: Portamento Toggling the LFO to be able to run free, as opposed to reset MIDI/Sysex dump abilities A legiti...
