Re: LinnDrum Kick EPROM - Is Mine Dying?
I put on headphones and heard the aliasing. I always check the power supply first and battery first. There might be something degrading the signals on the digital side. Could be cold solder joints. Decoupling caps might need to be tested. If the chip is socketed, the chip pins might need cleaning. ...

LinnDrum Kick EPROM - Is Mine Dying?
I'm thinking my LinnDrum (LM-2) kick EPROM might be going bad. Is it normal to have this much aliasing at the end of the sample? (Listen to attachment.)
I looked inside and the EPROM just said "BASS 1" on it.

Re: Triggering a LinnDrum and Pro One Simultaneously - MIDI/
But what point is there locking to a tempo grid if I'm not using patterns I've programmed on the LinnDrum? If I'm just triggering the LinnDrum like a sound module, it doesn't follow click time or MIDI time. If I'm understanding what you're suggesting, would ProTools be slaved to the click sync outpu...

Re: Triggering a LinnDrum and Pro One Simultaneously - MIDI/
Thanks for your replies, gentlemen. However, I don't think this technique will work for me, as I trigger the linndrum, I don't use MIDI clock to trigger sequences. In other words, I don't program the linndrum patterns on the linndrum. I just write out MIDI data in my DAW (ProTools) and use it as a s...

Triggering a LinnDrum and Pro One Simultaneously - MIDI/CV?
My goal is to trigger a LinnDrum and Pro One simultaneously. Both are MIDI modded (JLCooper and Turbo/MIDI, respectively.) I am using Pro Tools 10 and have an M-Audio Uno USB MIDI interface connected to a Kenton Thru-5 powered MIDI splitter. I am able to successfully trigger them on separate MIDI ch...

All hardware. No actual playing, of course.

Re: Emulator II - Sampling Noisefloor
The PSU's in the EII are notoriously bad - it may be that a duff PSU and possibly some bad tantalum caps are resulting in fact more noise from the digital stages finding their way into the audio path. Yes, I am guessing it has something to do with my PSU. I'm pretty sure it's been recapped in the p...

Re: Emulator II - Sampling Noisefloor
I'm going over to synthroom's this morning. (Dunno if you guys know him, but he's on this forum and also lives in PDX.) Anyhoo, we're going to compare noisefloors on our EIIs and I'll let you know what we find.

I think it must be my EII, John. I tried emailing you about this a while ago I think, haha...
You don't do your sampling through the analog input, though...you do it through the computer interface, don't you? I never got my Mac Classic CD drive to work...

Re: Emulator II - Sampling Noisefloor
Well, it does have a wonderful sound, but I think the key is not using the on-board sample input and, instead, getting all your samples through the COMPUTER INTERFACE on the back. It's a bit of a work-around, though. I'll go with a V-Synth version 2 for now...

Re: Emulator II - Sampling Noisefloor
I just talked to a tech who serviced EIIs back in the day, including Stevie Wonder's, and he said that what they used to do is use a DBX noise reduction unit on the output, which is basically an automated lowpass filter, and that'd take out a lot of the stagnant noisefloor. Then they'd feed that int...

Re: Emulator II - Sampling Noisefloor
It just has a nasty digital tail on some sounds because of the converters. It's ok...you just have to play around with the filter and the release time. Wish it were that easy on the EII.
