Re: Oberheim OB12 vs Studiologic Sledge

I presently own both as well as a number of other VAs. Not sure why so many are digging in the OB12. Do you guys program your own sounds? I have heard them to be buggy but I feel like I might have lucked out. All the OB12s I've owned through the years have operated perfectly (fingers crossed). When ...

Re: Geoff Downes 1980s Keyboard rig

While these rigs were huge, they were something to behold. If you watch Downes perform on this rig, you'd see that there isn't a terrible amount of coordination involved with changing sounds, etc. some synths he barely touches live. I think he played a few notes in the PPG on one song and that was i...

Re: Pad Sound in Streets of Philadelphia?

A D550? Wow, I never was interested in this thing. I thought it was a lifeless digital thing from the 80s. Perhaps I should check it up. I had a MKS 50 unit for some years but wasn´t impressed with it. Is the MKS 70 so much better? solitud D550 is in no way lifeless. Amazing sound even today, thoug...

Re: Recommend a cheap as dirt module /rackmount synth

A Proteus 1 can be had for around $75. A Roland JV-880 for about the same. Used to have a Kawai K1m, can be had for about $60. But, if you ask me, your best value is a Korg Wavestation SR. Usually go in the $175-200 range, but I lucked out and got mine on Ebay for $85. in perfect shape. Stay away fr...

Re: DW-8000 current street price

I LOVED the DW8000 and I've probably had a half dozen or so through the years. Good luck with it, great sound, but get yourself accustomed to opening it up every few months and cleaning the contacts. They are infamous for dead keys. Also, consider a DSS-1. Essentially the same signal path but it's a...

Re: Best way to get a ballpark of a synth's current going ra

Hey guys, I've been buying and selling on Ebay since 1998 and since day one I've been keeping and constantly updating a database of all model prices. I can tell you a good asking price for pretty much any synth that isn't super-rare. I track averages, means, medians as well as upward and downward tr...

Re: Weighted keys and nice pianos, Kurzweil?

I'd say look for an Oberheim MC3000 on Ebay. I got mine secondhand on Ebay a year ago for about $500, and I absolutely adore the hammer action, and it's the most versatile master controller I've ever seen. It's not perfect, but I've never seen a perfect controller, so this is as close as it gets! On...

Re: Kurzweil K2000VP vs Ensoniq TS 10

While I know this comment is going to sound like I'm really knocking the TS10 pretty hard, but comparing an Ensoniq to a Kurzweil is like comparing a Hyundai to an Acura. I've always stayed clear of Ensoniq gear, though I will admit when I get behind one (like the SQ2 I have for sale!) I am always i...

Re: Using Paypal on the forum

Paypal has no buyer protection policy whatsoever if the transaction wasn't made on Ebay. They also don't have seller protection (they say they do, but they don't!) even if the transaction IS on Ebay. Paypal also places random holds on peoples' accounts, regardless of the transaction type. So, person...
