Re: Were analog computers the real ancestors of synthesizers

they're definitely related. as said the tech was developed to do math equations - many(most?) people that made early synths knew math. :) lol it's kinda odd looking back because anyone now can sit down with a bread board and some parts and discover a lot of techniques just playing around, but...

Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?

setting up multis or whatever the manufacturer calls it on almost any digital synth i've used is a nerve wracking experience! good practice for using modular, i always just record because i'm never sure if i'll be able to get it back. d110 took a long time used to be my least favorite..my issue with...

Re: Gear Trading Thread

within u.s. please want to trade my sherman filter bank 2 (somewhat worn faceplate, but fully working) for your ex5 (r) or roland xv-5080 (i don't want any of the cards) or technics wsa 1 (r) I'm open to vintage ( ?) digital from 80s, early 90s too, especially w/ computer of that era to edit....

Re: JD-800 vs V-Synth

From a getting things done perspective, I think I'd go for a vsynth OG and vsynth xt. Boot the XT into D50 mode or use the vocal designer or use it as an effects processor that samples. Set your routing up right and you could keep going back and forth forever, layering, detuning, effecting and resam...

Re: Yamaha TG77 Yea or Nay

Print out the job table sheet and pin it behind it or on top of it and the front panel editing won't be terrible. :) Battery is soldered on, but should still be an easy fix if dead or dying. The SY77 is somewhat easier with more dedicated buttons, but envelopes are the time consuming (and rewarding!...

It's a factory patch. I quickly checked all the other patches and no others use these as LFO shapes.

Mystery Ensoniq SQ1 hidden LFO shapes?

I was editing a preset on the sq1 "LABrass" and when I went to the LFO page it said "ass1HiPa", and scrolling through I saw "Pass2HiP","oPass3Lo", "LoPass2L", "2LoPass3". The stranger part is that I can't go back to them after moving down the list. They definitely sound different than the regular LF...

Akai s612 power supply specifications?

I'd love to get the s612 I have working again, but I'm not sure I want to spend for a schematic that might not help. Power board fuses are blowing and I've not been able to trace it. Figure I might as well swap the whole thing out. Could anyone measure the values of the power board of a working one ...

Re: Monotribe CV control

This'll be very cool with the MiniMS20! I'd wire up a cable with 1 jack and 2 plugs. You might even be able to find some already made iPod cables because it uses trrs. Now they just need to make version 2s of the trons that take CV and spit it out. Original does ribbon, delay does "clock" and the du...

Re: Deadmau5 buys a Fairlight CMI

I'm just glad he's buying a whole bunch of modules even if he doesn't know how to use them cause it's really good for the manufacturers. :thumbleft: And that subsidy can potentially get passed on to us too. It'd be cool if this sparked a resurgence in samplers. Personally, I'd be throwing money at ...

Re: New prices of synths on VSE

I'm pretty familiar with prices of Roland synths from mid/late 80s. Somewhere, I should still have copies of pages from an early 90s Orion Blue Book of most synth manufactures which has MSRP for most items. What synths are you wondering about? How about the Alpha Junos in dollars if you don't mind?...

New prices of synths on VSE

Sorry, not sure where to post for discussion of the site itself. I think it'd be interesting to know the prices synths were originally released at. It can be surprisingly hard to find that info online. Maybe the MSR and street prices at time of release? It'd be an a good way to put used prices in pe...
