Weirdly, the rack version (JP-8080) has 2 midi IN. I obtained the same result while unfortunately sending the out into one of the ins through a patchbay... Silly me!

Another thing to check first before dismantling anything: Using midi, can you trigger another synth using those keys? If yes, then the problem isn't with the contact. Using another synth to send midi signals, can you play the notes of those keys? If yes, then it's most likely the contact that causes...

I would think that the simpler user interface (bringing more instant gratification) of the JX-3P and the firmware/midi bugs of the JX-10 might explain that. The Roland JP-8080 has a nice arp feature, and it sends it out via midi.

The most annoying thing I find with modern analog are their 49 keys: 61 isn't the norm anymore...

You can't get a vintage poly with an built in arpegiator for a decent price these days. You might be lucky, like a friend of mine last year who got a Juno 60 with a stand for $60 CAD (buy the stand, and get a keyboard for free!), but you had to see the ad, answer it and go get it quickly before the ...

The external arp needs a steady click input to operate. Like from a rim shot of a drum machine, or a loud track with clicks on it. I tested it with a special clock module when I had a P61M in my rig, and it did work.
