Re: Anyone have the real Korg-Polysix?!

I have an honest-to-goodness Polysix sitting right here (no midi). I've done fairly in-depth side-by-sides with the Legacy plugin, where I simply set all of the knobs to the same values and started hitting notes. I have to say that the only significant differences with the VSTi is 1) stereo 2) the f...

Re: E-MU XK-6 ::: have u ever pwned one ?

More... Wow, excellent post. So I have a PX7 that I've been considering sending to ebay. I've tried to love it but I'm really having trouble. I've only owned it for a few months and have plowed through about half of the extensive manual. Perhaps I need to look at it more like a synth and play it wi...

Re: Anyone have a bad luck Synth?

My Oberheim Matrix 6r. Every time I think I have that thing squared away it starts rebooting randomly again. In fact I've had it run perfectly for an entire month, with continuous daily use, then the day I go to list it on eBay BOOM random reboots. It's like the monkey's paw synth I can't get rid of...

Re: Jupiter 6 Europa?

Here's one more positive vote for the Europa. The upgrade extends MIDI far beyond the original. The ability to flawlessly sync to midi (even send its own midi clock of you're into that), is great. As for the software you're talking about, I don't know that you'd ever need it. I doubt they'll ever re...

I'm about 95% sure the answer is no. The 106 is a pretty basic machine.

Projectile, excellent summary. That made perfect sense. Thank you for taking the time! I'm going to give this a shot when things calm down around me.

Re: Ensoniq TS-Series

I've ordered the SQX70 sequencer expander and am looking at expanding the RAM to 8MB but I can't find an SP4 SCSI board anywhere. Make sure you check around before buying that stuff. Folks on ebay will sell the expander kit for like $50 and ram expansion for about the same. You can get the ram upgr...

Re: Now I can play my cz101 at night...

Please, any more info on the install would be greatly appreciated! Since there seems to be a lot of interest in this mod, I'll post whatever info I can. The LCD board in the cz101 has 14 pins. Most of the backlit screens sold on ebay have 16 pins. The extra 2 pins are for power and ground to the ba...

Re: My Jupiter 6 Story

Congrats! I picked up a JP6 several years ago and ended up replacing a few pots from a NOS auction on Ebay (I didn't need a whole set). Once you get it running rip out the mainboard and send it in to get the Europa upgrade. It'll complete the process of bringing your old Jupiter into the modern era....

Re: Juno 106... good or bad?

I think the 106 is great. I have one on the stack right above my JP6. I think the more complex an instrument is the more it gets in the way of creativity - that's how it is for me, anyway. That's a big perk of the 106, it's inspiring to play and there's basically no learning curve. You can get to pr...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 6 function and preset issues.

I have a Matrix 6r that had similar problems. Run fine for a while, then shut down and restart. I suffered through it for a long time until I finally replaced the capacitors in the power supply. Since then it's been rock solid again. Seems like they used really cheap parts on that line. Replace all ...

Re: Jupiter 6 Oscillators

Besides the normal six-voice mono-mode the Jupiter 6 has an unusual, and possibly unique to the Jupiter series, mono-mode that allows only one voice to be used for a more authentic monosynth experience. There is also another unique mono-mode which stacks all six voices when you play one note, but w...

Re: Jupiter 6 Oscillators

To follow up one V30H's comment, If you have the Europa upgrade you can more easily turn all oscillators off. If, for example, you wanted to only have one single oscillator to play you would have to select that voice and mix all the way to that side. With Europa you can disable one of the two voices...

Re: Geddy Goes Phatty Live!

I'll bet after 20 years of touring with heavy and unreliable analog stuff they're happy to just run samples out of a rack. On a semi-related note, I saw Of Montreal a short while back and at several points during the show the little phatty's bass seriously shook the floor. Unbelievable. I need to se...
