Re: Arturia Oberheim SEM V

Really? I think OPX-pro sounds considerably more authentic to the Oberheim sound than the Arturia SEM. Nothing Arturia makes sounds very authentic to me. I like their synths alright, but authentic they are not. In that reply I was comparing Arturia SEM V to the "SAM", not to OP-X. I agree with you ...

Re: Arturia Oberheim SEM V

Support The Little Guy . Arturia needs to go down in flames for re-using the same tweaked software modules over and over with different classic synth labels on them and adding flashy GUI features no one cares about. Not bad. It doesn't sound quite as good as Arturia's SEM but it doesn't cost $250 e...

Re: Arturia Oberheim SEM V

Honestly, f**k Arturia - it all sounds like s**t to me and I'm no software hater. Just look to NI for brilliant sounding plugs, I'll say no more. ...but if you want *that* sound, dig your hands a little deeper into those pockets and support the guy who's still out there making these things. ;) I ow...

Arturia Oberheim SEM V

Has anyone tried the new Arturia Oberheim SEM V? I downloaded the demo recently to compare to OP-X, which I own. I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed. Hardly any of the patches sounded "Oberheim" to me. I also tried programming something as simple as a classic filter sweep with resonance and ...

Great topic, BTW. I've learned a few things from the responses.

If we're talking about groundbreaking then perhaps we should include the upcoming Arturia Origin. Modular everything, not to the extent of Reaktor, but certainly a flexible and powerful piece of equipment.

If you're looking for something a little less pricey then there's the Stringer by Sonic Projects which costs $65. It doesn't have all of the rare, esoteric models that String Machine does but instead concentrates on the most popular ones (Arp, Solina, etc). Just from listening to the demos it sounds...

Fair approximation? Dude, that sounds absolutely spot on! For Tom Sawyer, try using only 4 or 6 voices and hard panning half of them L and the other half R. I am pretty sure that's how Geddy recorded it. He ran the OBX into the console in stereo, activated the unison, and panned the voices. That's ...

Bravo, that man! They sound absolutely spot-on, sir - magnificent work. I think that OPX will be my first foray into software synths - the closest I'll get to an old Obie! Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. As mentioned before, the OP-X isn't perfect but it's certainly the best Oberheim si...

Gee, thanks. I think it's pretty close even though the OP-X is not quite perfect. I'm still having difficulty getting an authenitc Tom Sawyer sweep. Meanwhile, here's a fair approximation of The Camera Eye:

OB-X emulator updated

Just a note to let everyone who may have an interest that SonicProjects' OP-X has been updated to version 2.0. There are some improvements, the most obvious of which is a better looking GUI. http://www.sonicprojects.ch/ Here is me fudging through some bits from Rush's Subdivisions. I did some tweaki...

Hmmm, I didn't stop to think that it might vary from one synth to another. So, while in VSThost I tried changing the buffer size but it said that it was fixed at 64 samples. Perhaps that can to be changed with the sound card software.

MIDI problems with VST

Hi all, I have been using soft synths for a while now but they have all been standalone programs (Pro-53, Minimoog V). Just recently I bought Sonic Projects OP-X which only comes as a plug-in so I have had to venture into the world of VST. I am using VSThost and everything is working fine except for...

Yeah, I'll probably have to go with something cheaper and just set it up like you said. But if $500 happens to show up in the mail then I'll have to give the Novation Remote SL some serious thought...
