Re: Opinions on upcoming TR-808 and SH-101 Boutiques
I find it a little odd they did the 101 as a boutique seeing as we already have it on the (fantastic) System One hardware platform which is far more versatile and as a Aira VST plugin let alone a load of other third party plugins. To me it's just lack of imagination on Roland's behalf always going f...

Re: Is it just me, or is the 707 everywhere these days?
The 707 has been super popular for ages I think. It came seriously back into fashion few years ago with the electronic/dance guys, almost every track being released was using one and now it's starting to pop up into more popular types of music again. Probs also aided by the optional 707 kit on the A...

Re: Accessing an Akai s3200xl via SCSI - question
You can do it, the issue is your 64 bit os any way... According to this post you need to install a renamed copy of Frogaspi.dll into the program directory and then install the sampler as a SCSI CD ROM which i don't know how to do. http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=53995&p=560234&...

Re: Accessing an Akai s3200xl via SCSI - question
Are you using OS 2.0 on the Akai? It won't work other wise.

Re: Akai S3000XL waveform looping
I watch your videos a lot on YouTube - thanks for giving these samplers an online presence! The only trouble with this technique is it requires a computer with scsi and the appropriate software to make the connection... Although it is possible to transfer files via midi, it just takes ages. Does th...

Re: Akai S3000XL waveform looping
Akai's looping process amongst other stuff is pretty c**p especially when you compare how easily stuff like the EPS does it.
Regardless you could just do it using something like Wavelab, it's MUCH better...

D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
A hoi hoi, just wondering can any one with a D-50 give me any pointers on what waves and structure was used to make the Sound Track patch on the D-50?
I have a JV-2080 and I wonder if it could be accurately emulated on it, any thoughts?

Re: Synths/Samplers with LCD upgrades
OLED displays for my Prophet VS & Prophet VS rack. Beautiful. I'll try and post a picture later. Nice! I recently played a DIS Pro 2 and other than the fact that it's a absolutely lovely instrument the screen really is superb! I'm glad more manufacturers are using these kinds of screens. Now if onl...

Re: Roland Boutique
They look fun and are cheap and I don't want to poo on them before trying them but I have to agree with the previous poster. From what I have heard so far I fell that whilst they have that "tone" or are close they do lack the snap of the envelopes and other quirks that made those synths great in the...

Synths/Samplers with LCD upgrades
So lots of people replacing crappy LCD screens on synths and samplers with nicer OLED displays now. This is especially great if the old display has one of those awful EL foils with their screaming inverters and shitty faint light. Akai S-950, MPC-60, Korg Wavestation being just some from the top of ...

Re: Versatile, warm analogue polysynths?
Every one's tastes are different. Just get what ever you can afford and may fancy the sound of. When I started I just got what ever was the cheapest in the classified ads... That included JX-3P's for £80, cheap Juno's, DX'es and what ever else was unpopular or considered c**p. I don't know what's "a...

Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?
I can't agree with the S-2000 either, it's not a badly designed UI for what it is. Actually it's pretty intuitive considering the tiny display and 100s of parameters. You have to understand where the S-2000 came from and what it was aimed at. It was basically a S-3000XL (same mainboard inside) at a ...
