Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

'Elements' W.I.P. (a long non-tracked improv piece by yours truly, so, not a cover this time) 2:38 Air 3:53 Water 4:51 Land yea yea, I know it has Vangelis' Soil Festivities written all over it ^^ Non-tracked you say? Wowissimo! This is very, very good, especially the last part. Definitely more int...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

There are many FM signature sounds. I use only simple FM in the DX7 MkI and it's already interesting, let alone FS1r or FM8. For example I made a mellow brass sound accompanied by the sound of falling boulders morphing into distant thunder or a blown pipe morphing into Indian tabla with a space tamp...

Re: Music for juno 106

You could learn Vangelis' To The Unknown Man, Pulstar, Alpha and Hymne. All of these songs would sound great on a Juno 106.

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

Only thing, I thought the first generation was theGS1. And, wasn't the GS1 designed without front-panel programming? Indeed, GS1 and GS2 were based on that FM engine before DX7. It's only because DX7 was the first affordable and popular FM synthesizer that people describe it as the first generation...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

I disagree with this thread and most of the threads about FM  Here are a few ideas that I don't believe in and have proven wrong with my DX7 MkI: - FM is like a good spice but is worthless on its own without the dish - FM always sounds dry on its own and it has to be used with external effects ...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

I haven't heard of any FM synth with analogue filters but you can use external filtering for mono/paraphonic sounds with any FM instrument.

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

Why not just get past the trivial problem of the user interface and delve into FM a bit more? Is that a sarcastic statement? My internet-humor radar is a little off today. I think it's because the majority of 'music gear' buyers consider themselves some kind of musician and musicians tend to favor ...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

to me it's kind of like these crazy boutique effects pedals that are "cool" but hard to use for real, melodic music. I like this comparison. Actually, I've recently ordered a Flanger Hoax from Electro Harmonix to process my DX7 sound with it. It is a hate/love effect pedal and very much like a DX7 ...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

While analog love is certainly a trend, it's not a trend for imaginary reasons. As I've said in other threads, analog is loved because it is aurally pleasing and more similar to acoustic sounds. I see your point about analogue sound sometimes having the liveliness of the acoustic instrument but FM ...

Re: What 'hidden gems' have you found on your synths?

My £27 DX7 unexpectedly came with an expansion board that gave it 4 banks of patches as well as a changeable MIDI Out channel! Mine too! It wasn't £27 but still a great deal for a very good condition DX7 with Sycology V2 installed of which I hadn't known. Another hidden gem is the extremely healthy...
