Re: Prophet 6
Makes me wonder if Dave Smith got back the rights to the "Sequential" name, or if he had the naming rights the entire time and this is the first synth in a new "line" of stuff.

Re: Roland Gaia SH-01
Great tutorial video on programming the Gaia. Doesn't sound too bad here.
The JP8080 is still my favorite Roland VA though.

Re: Favorite use of the Synclavier?
I didn't think there was any Synclavier on Construction Time Again. I think of that as more a Emulator kind of thing... A little bit of research on my part uncovered the following: Robert Henke's page The Synclavier was excessively used by Depeche Mode for the albums "Some Great Reward" and "Constr...

Re: Favorite use of the Synclavier?
^^^^ Hey what sounds are coming from the Synclavier on that song? That was always one of my favorites by Depeche Mode. Someone mentioned Banks from Genesis before; there are all kinds of great Synclavier parts on the 1983 album, "Second Home By The Sea" comes to mind (great lead tone) and "Silver Ra...

Re: the best old hardware PAD machine? (ambient pads and dro
K5000 smokes everything on that list. Can't beat having over 1000 envelope generators for making nice pads. I have never really been into this synth until recently. Now that I'm discovering it more, I'm very impressed with the complex and evolving sounds you can make on it. It truly is a top notch ...

Re: Wavestation SR, TR Rack or FS1R
Thanks all for the input - I have been checking out the Kawai K5000r and it seems right on like what I'm looking for (evolving pads). Love the sounds it can make, and it seems like a very deep, unique and interesting synth. I'm still looking at some Waldorfs like the Q, Microwave etc to see if I lik...

Re: the best old hardware PAD machine? (ambient pads and dro
Of the synths you listed, JD-800/JD-990 is my first choice. Excellent for pads, drones, ambient. 990 is better because of the more advanced synth engine. I had JD-800 some years ago and now have a 990. D-50/D-550 is also great, I can always hear some definite crystalline magic in it's sound. However...

Re: New hybrid digital/analogue Roland Synth?
WTF is up with all the synths with minikeys these days. Some of us actually PLAY our synths. I'll tell you what they should have done - just use the GAIA keybed on this new model. Roland have always used excellent keybeds on their synths so it sucks to see them take the mini-keys route. JP-8000's 4...

Re: Wavestation SR, TR Rack or FS1R
Guys, the Wavestation VST version sounds really good - I have been having a blast with it. The Wavestation has my favorite lead sound of all time on it, the upper part of the "Ski Jam" preset. I have wanted to get a Wavestation for a long time, ever since I learned Banks used one for lots of great s...

Re: How do you have your gear hooked up?
I love threads like these because it's great to take a look at how other people set their stuff up... great learning experience. My new i7 PC based setup has a Mackie LM3204 16 stereo channel line mixer, all 8 of my Drumtraks outputs are on one bus taking advantage of the Mackie's mixer and EQ funct...

Wavestation SR, TR Rack or FS1R
Korg Wavestation SR vs Korg TR Rack vs Yamaha FS1R ...which one to get? I am looking at one of these for abstract, weird, atmospheric, evolving, dark, unusual sounds + textures. Ease of programming not being an issue, which one would you guys recommend for the most fun and craziness? Currently I am ...

Re: multiple modules & DAW - what interface for MIDI + audio
Great, I think I will go look for a MidiSport 8x8. It seems like the best way for a MIDI controller keyboard to get hooked up to different synths/drum machines and talk to a sequencer, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not sure yet how many rack modules I'm going to put in my current setup,...

Re: help me choose a virtual analog synth
I have had Korg MS2000, Roland JP-8000, and an Alesis Ion. My JP-8000 never gave me any issues during the period of time when I owned it, and for what you want: ...[the] fewer menus the better, the more interactive/knobby the better (so absolutely not a 'workstation') ...robust arpeggiator, ability ...

multiple modules & DAW - what interface for MIDI + audio?
Hi guys, I'm getting back into the synth and recording game and need some advice on a DAW + synth modules setup that I am planning. I prefer hardware synths over soft, but will still be using VSTs for drum sequencing and stuff like FM7 which I really like. What I cannot figure out is, what kind of r...

Re: The synth that keeps on giving
Damn, I wish I had one... On top of my list, that's for sure! Reading about the update really makes me want to upgrade from my old indigo 2. What do you guys think, should I? Is the C engine obsolete these days? No way, Virus C series has a top-notch complete & powerful synth engine. Lots of fun st...
