Re: Yamaha RS7000 or Roland MC909 for sequencing other synth
Never had an issue with MIDI messages glitching, but for the record there is a sequencing option to "Thin Data"

Re: Yamaha RS7000 or Roland MC909 for sequencing other synth
I only own the MC-909, and from what I can tell it's a fussy b***h: in theory it's great--the centerpiece of a studio-- but in practice the MIDI spec is compromised to shoehorn that sh*tty V-Link*, you can't change the channel assignment (brutal), and I'm pissed because I can find no option to stop ...

Re: Yamaha An1x vs Korg R3 for pads
It looks like you've made up your mind already, but in case someone else is making this comparison, I've got both AN1x and R3, and although they're two solid bi-timbral virtual-analogs with assignable knobs and all the usual stuff, they each excel at a few different things... The R3 is more modern w...

Re: I AM Electro ~ Vocoder Suggestions
I'm curious as to why you're crossing the MicroKorg off the list but keeping the MS2000 since they're more or less the same engine. :?: I've never tried an analog vocoder, but I've got an R3 and it does a great job vocoding which is mainly what I use that synth for. It's got a good suite of effects ...

Re: $200 + Korg Prophecy VS Korg Z1
You select your patch with the left+right arrow buttons on the right of the display (the ones to the left are more ofa "page" select that skips past 6 patches at a time). If you wanna dive into a given patch, take a look at all the buttons to the right...the 2nd one in the top row is what you need t...

Re: $200 + Korg Prophecy VS Korg Z1
Wow, that's really rough. :( Even though I heard this was a known issue with them, I didn't consider the fact that it's got an internal power supply so I figured it might just be a simple PCB resolder, but if it's enough to decommission the voice chips then that's....troubling. Makes me think twice ...

Re: $200 + Korg Prophecy VS Korg Z1
Corndog: Are you sure you're in Editing mode? You need to select the patch you want and then hit the arrow button in the upper-left side of the pushbutton matrix to toggle modes, THEN you can hit the parameter buttons (osc, mixer, etc) to make patch changes. Be sure you're doing this right before yo...

Re: $200 + Korg Prophecy VS Korg Z1
You should ask yourself the more abstract questions at this point, things like: -Are you okay with a monosynth for the sounds you're looking to create? Specifically, are you going to be using it more for evolving pads, or phat lead/solo sounds? There's overlap here, but the Prophecy is generally con...

Re: JX-80 and PG-800 connection problem?
Doesn't sound good. I managed to find the connector cable (a special DIN cable BTW, not a MIDI cable!) and just connected it, turned the power on and it responded as far as I remember. No messing around. You could try engaging the parameter button*, but if that does nothing then I'd try moving the s...

Re: Sampler for Live Hip-Hop Performance
Check the Akai MPX8 if you want a cheap, barebones sample playback machine. It's only about $100, takes an SD card, and the pads sense velocity. The Boss/Roland SP-x0x line is basically overpriced, underspec'd junk. The Akai fills a void that's been left empty for years, and I regret buying a shitty...

Re: Physical Modeling Purchase Advice?
Thanks for the reply, guys. The Prophecy guy has been nothing short of a total liar wank and relisted at $600  I was looking at the EWI4000s because I can't practice with my alto sax in the apartment without angering the neighbors, and it would be cool to see how it works with a PM synth. Other...

Physical Modeling Purchase Advice?
Got some great info on PM synthesis from the VL1/VL7 thread and was originally going to reply there, but figured it was too tangential to reply there with this. I've been eyeballing physical modeling synths, and I'm wondering if something like an EWI4000s would be ideal for the EX5r/Z1/Prophecy, or ...

Re: Ever been tempted to sell everything and buy a Korg Poly
The cheapest one on ebay right now is $299 That doesn't mean that a Poly 800 has never sold for less than $299, does it? ;) Besides, that one's a Poly 800 II and they tend to fetch a few more dollars because they're rarer. The first-gen Poly 800s are plentiful and cheap. Try $4 at Frenchy's for a m...
