Re: Unidentified Binson echo unit (fixed image)
Good lord, I've not seen one of those since the 70's. The one I had wasn't made by Binson, but it looks almost the same. :o The disc that you can see is a custom coil of recording wire (no tape), the record and playback heads are arranged around the disc to provide the effect... It's going to be hit...

Re: Yellow Pearl/ Phil Lynott synth
To the best of my knowledge it was a Yamaha SS30 string machine. Midge Ure Co-Produced and wrote it in 1980, just before he joined Ultravox, but had been using the SS30 for a few years previously with The Rich Kids. It's a very distictive string sound as it has two top oscillator blocks that can be ...

Re: Best software synths right now?
What's your budget for an orchestral synth? There are ones that cost thousands of dollars, marketed to composers who are doing movie soundtracks and such. Then there's stuff like IK's Miroslav Philharmonik and Garritan down at the low end. I can't fault Kirk Hunter's Diamond Orchestra. Occasionally...

I always thought it was a shame that it was never Multi-Timbral.

Re: Portamento and Amplitude Modulation synthesis
In addition, there are two other aspects attached to Portamento - Log and Linear glide. Linear portamento has a straight linear speed from one note to the next - The Minimoog and many digital synths use this type of glide. With Log portamento, the glide speed decreases as you reach the target note -...

Re: Your latest musical purchase
Picked up a Behringer Neutron From DV247/Music Store (returned stock £208) - It had an issue with 1V/Oct scaling when used with an external CV input to VCOs 1&2, via MIDI it was fine. Simple fix... Adjusted the trimmers on the back of the PCB for correct scaling, luckily, it doesn't affect the MIDI ...

Due to the distinct lack of comment, I'm not sure if it's gone over the heads of most casual viewers.
Being a total Nerd, I quite enjoyed reading your fine missive.

Re: Minimoog weirdness
The contact springs and bus-bars under the keybed need cleaning. The springs may also need re-aligning, but be very careful as they're fragile and it's difficult to find replacements

Just make up two cables like the ones below for the correct CV and Trigger connections

Re: Arturia BSP/Moog Source?
You shouldn't have any problems... Just remember to change the "Gate Out" of the BSP to "S-Trigger" (via the Midi Control Center software) and you'll be good to go.

Re: Komplete 12 announced
I believe K12's available sometime in October, but Massive X is not ready until Feb 2019.
I'll continue with K11U for the time being... not much there that's worth upgrading for, apart from Kontakt 6. I can live with that.

IC404 is a simple CMOS CD4013 Dual Flip-Flop (14pin DIP). You can get them very easily for £0.36p/€0.40/$0.50 - Farnell, Mouser, Radio Spares etc.Scories wrote:Thanks a lot for the advice.
Is it easy (and cheap) to find that IC 404 CMOS digital chip?

Re: Korg/ARP Odyssey. LFO Envelope retrig problem.
I gave up trying to reverse engineer the SMT components to sort the problem out... I ended up selling the Keyboard version and got the Module. Everything works fine, but the Square wave pulse width still changes as the frequency is raised - Definitely not a trait of the original Oddy, but it'll do.

Re: Best AU Plugin emulation of LinnDrum?
Although it's not a plug-in, I've been using this EXS24 set for Logic for years... Even produced a few Hi-NRG/Italo releases using it - proper vinyl, none of that MP3 business
