Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

This is pretty much totally awesome. Fully analog for $500, you absolutely cannot beat that these days. Hopefully one of these will make it into my rig.

Re: ever use only one synth for a full song? (Solvent)

Pretty much everything I've done since 2009 has been 100% Alesis Micron, mostly because I don't think anything else I have sounds good with it. My only other VA(Korg EA-1) sounds awful in a mix with it, and the analog/hybrid stuff doesn't sound right with it either.

Re: Should I use Bass or Guitar pedals with my synth?

Thanks for the help folks, I'll keep these things in my mind when I go pedal shopping.

Although as pricklyrobot suggested, some kind of multi-FX unit would probably be the way to go. I'd probably end up spending more on several pedals than I would on a multi-FX unit.

Should I use Bass or Guitar pedals with my synth?

So recently my very nice RFX-2000 rack unit that I use with my synths fell off my desk and into the floor. The CPU is all scrambled up. I've decided to buy a pedal or two to replace it, but I'm not sure if I should buy pedals aimed at guitar or bass. The pedal(s) would be used to for making noise wi...

Re: Help!! New To Synths!

I'd imagine a synth being 'hi-fi' and therefore work best on broad spectrum speakers, not limited frequency response designed bass or guitar speakers I agree with this. The OP should buy a keyboard amp, not a bass amp. I've played a synth through a bass amp before, and it sounded pretty awful compa...

Re: Lets talk basslines

I usually start with a drum pattern first, and create a bassline to go with it. Everything else comes after that.

Unless I'm making noisey experimental stuff, in which case there usually isn't a bassline.

Re: big funk cabaret voltaire

It could be a DX7, but I kind of doubt it. They weren't big fans of digital synths, and that doesn't really sound like one to me.

It's most likely a Roland of some kind. I can't say that for sure, but I know they were into using Roland gear.

Wow, this is great news! I'm buying the Duo for sure, not sure about the other one yet, I'd like to hear more from it. Here's an article with videos, in case no one has heard them yet: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2011/11/korg-monotron-duo-monotron-delay-bring-fun-back-via-monopoly-ms-circuits-and-...

Re: An FM synth with knobs?

For cheap and easy, nothing beats the Yamaha portasounds - there were at least 4 (PSS-390/470/570 and PSR-41) that had low-resolution parameter sliders that still allowed a pretty wide control over the sound (or presets). The PSR41 actually had midi too. They are all 2 or 4-op, but can still sound ...

Re: What synth have you bought more than once?

It's a long story but I now have 2 Microns. I lost the power supply for my first one, and the old Alesis PSU I was using for awhile ended up dying. I accidentally plugged up a DC power supply to the Micron and the screen started going nuts when I powered it up. It didn't make any sound and I figured...

Re: Recording Issues

I was using the Beta 1.3 version of Audacity. It turns out I had to dig further into the audio settings of the computer and set-up the recording input to be in stereo. Should have been obvious, but I never had to do that with the other two computers I've had this interface plugged into. EDIT: I'm ha...

Re: What is your favorite pad synth?

Korg Wavestation, hands down.

I've only used the Korg Legacy softsynth, but I'm sure there's little difference between that and the hardware version.

I don't know much about them, but have you tried a MIDI dump from the EA-1 to the EMX?
