Re: MPC questions

5000 is quite different from the 2500. Another nice machine... Has filters, VA synth, and fx from the Alesis ION/Fusion.

Re: MPC questions

MPC pads are never what one would consider 'very responsive'. They also don't change in responsiveness over time. As for which is better, that's subjective, and everyone will have his/her own rationale behind his/her preference. I've owned both and both are great machines for different reasons. I st...

Re: How bad is the ASR-X's sequencer?

The X was the machine I cut my teeth on. The problems with the sequencer are as follows: 1. It hiccups when tweaking while the sequence is playing, as mentioned. It also can't handle a lot of CC data; the same hiccups happen. However, this is not a 'sometimes' problem. The X uses its main CPU for al...

Re: wanting to get a hardware sampler (sp 303? or suggestion

I can totally relate on the using your ears instead of your eyes" angle. However, its not all rosy on the hardware side either. Picking the wrong sampler can be as big of a detriment to your workflow as staring at a laptop is. The last thing you want is a sampler that requires a bunch of left brain ...

Re: Any fans of the EIIIX?

oh... I apologize, I must be turning into a curmudgeon... It did take me several iterations of both mindset and gear to get where I had a flow going. I've been from all hardware (back when you didn't have much choice) to all software to various combinations of each. Don't really do old school...

Re: Any fans of the EIIIX?

OK, so, what could be quicker than drag and drop of sample into Kontakt You have to have a sample prepared to drag and drop. That necessitates (1) a separate piece of software to capture the sample, (2) two separate trips through the file system, and (3) accessing several user interfaces that are l...

Re: Any fans of the EIIIX?

Exactly. The initial idea (and some degree of early idea development) is the point. I'm opposed to using my left brain before I have an idea going. Just doesn't work for me. That's my missed opportunity. If it was convenience I was looking for, then I wouldn't be looking for it in 25 year old tech (...

Re: Any fans of the EIIIX?

First off, no software ever cost that much. My bad I should have been more detailed. I was including the computer in the total price. And yes I was exaggerating a little... So I can say with authority that I never found that process in any way creative. At worst, tedious, at best, mildy satisfying ...

Re: Any fans of the EIIIX?

There may be a context for hardware samplers, I dunno, There is a context. but how far off are software samplers in practice? They're a lot closer in 2011 than they were in 2009. thanks in large part to Ableton, Maschine, BPM and Geist. Because they can actually sample, but also because considerati...

Re: I just realized what I want - A true hardware Maschine

Oh didn't know that about the 2000XL. Thanks for that. The latest JJOS can hold 99 programs I believe, and you can have up to 16 of them assigned to MIDI channels for multitimbral use. Forgot to mention that it also makes a decent single-cycle-wav synthesizer with INST (instrument multisample) progr...

Re: DAW/softsynths + touchscreen?

Well kinda... You have to get the right stylus for a given touchscreen technology, but from what I understand, capacitive touchscreen stylii aren't nearly as accurate as digitizer stylii. The capacitive tips are, by necessity, wider, and thus less accurate. I think that's an important consideration ...
