Re: Analog drum machine... 909, 808, or....???

everyone already knows this, but there is flexibility of sound parts like drum kicks, but there is also flexibility of the kits themselves (different combinations of kick, snare, hihats, claps, from different machines) the inflexibility of any part that can't be tuned can be a pretty big issue if yo...

maybe Stab Frenzy is talking about Live > Expert Sleepers? ... as being more reliable than MIDI.

Re: Buchla documentary

interesting take on soundtrack. over at the Muff's forum there is great debate about whether it is valid to note a difference between "East Coast" vs. "West Coast" synth philosophies. here there seems some poking fun at Buchla and experimental music, while Moog provokes a totally different response....

Re: Analog drum machine... 909, 808, or....???

the original x0x machines are pretty convenient despite all their limitations, but if you want "flexible sounds" have you considered assembling your own frankenstein so you don't have to choose? I have a small Tip Top 808 set and it sounds great. you can even choose different drum sound clones from ...

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini

I just watched AG's latest MS-20 Mini video and all I have to say is that it's as refreshing and fun to watch as the original videos. they're so clear and easy to understand, and so good that Korg should be sending AG some courtesy synth gifts or something (if they haven't already) :D . I can't even...

Re: Vile Electrodes - what drums?

interesting coincidence for me regarding the 707 and general interest in what gear other musicians use is that the last time I was also intrigued to find out was with Xeno and Oaklander and analogue drums (sort of Roland CR 78 style sounds). I just realized that it's actually rare for me to care wha...

Re: Vile Electrodes - what drums?

just listened to Sanctuary. so good. you guys are seriously the best classic live synth duo since Xeno and Oaklander. except you have a fuller, more hi-fi sound. I can't rave enough. I hope you guys blow up.

Re: CV Gate converters??

this is very true about eurorack. it's the trendiest thing going on right now. but it took me all of 10 seconds to offset and attenuate a 10V pp AC pulse into a perfect 7.5V DC gate using an A-183-2. can't get any easier than that for clueless noobs like me. s**t is instant. not the cheapest solutio...

Re: Vile Electrodes - what drums?

Hello. Ms Neon here. Don't think my input's needed now, but it was indeed a 707 (and a bit of SCI Drumtraks). The whole song is actually made using vintage hardware - we're obsessive synth collectors! :) Samples can sound great - we use samples of the Linn Drum and some other drum machines in our M...

Re: What tuning intervals with 2 oscillators?

but to answer the op question. A lot of folks do just tune the oscs in unison and octave. also quite common are your major 3rds, 4ths and 5ths. Other intervals, even major ones, just sound kind of garbage. Of course someone will have to contradict my generalisations, but except for deliberately noi...

Re: What tuning intervals with 2 oscillators?

not to open a can of worms, but oscillators can also act as modulators rather than tone generators. if you use a second and/or third oscillator to modulate your primary tone, you can achieve rich and complex timbres even if you're only really using one main waveform for the sound. here's an example ...

Re: Vile Electrodes - what drums?

cool thank you. I forgot to mention I was after the snare specifically. another person tipped me off to a 707 as a possible match, which sounds pretty damn close. and it turns out their soundcloud page has a gear list.
