Re: Size doesn't matter... or does it?
I find all the dedicated MIDI controller keyboards out there very cheap and not conducive to playing as a musical instrument. Don't buy the cheap ones then. if crisp keyboard action is what you're after it's probably not the best idea to look for vintage gear  Cite a dedicated MIDI controller ...

Re: Size doesn't matter... or does it?
I'm all about a minimalistic setup. I do everything from a DAW. Reason I registered here is because I was looking for an old synth to use as a master keyboard, as I find all the dedicated MIDI controller keyboards out there very cheap and not conducive to playing as a musical instrument. Understand ...

Re: Guess that synth: Genesis edition
One of Banks' signature sounds was using a phaser pedal on the Hammond Organ to make that kind of organ sound. He used and MXR-100 phaser and a Hammond M-102 most in the 70s. It's very audible on this live recording from 1979. The RMI electric piano is also in there, before the synth solo part. Spe...

Re: Guess that synth: Genesis edition
Wow, great to see some Genesis love somewhere other than a Genesis forum (not that it exists anymore). Makes sense that other synth freaks would have to have taken note of Tony Banks; it would be difficult not to! They've been my favorite band since, well, probably before I could talk! I've been luc...

How exactly was an antenna used for modulation? I've never heard of that.

Re: simple/good quality MIDI keyboard controller?
If you're looking for something to put into a new housing, I know couple of instances of people using a Studiologic SL-161. I have been using an SL-161 Pro lately, and the keys are very nice. They're higher-end Fatars. Problem being, Studiologic controllers are known to be finicky and have electrica...

Re: New MIDI Master Keyboard to Revamp Polyphonic Aftertouch
I have to say that the poly AT is the one thing I do miss from my long departed SQ80. I'm not sure I'm ready to drop $500 on a controller just to get poly AT back...will have to think about this. Well, the $500 isn't just for the poly-AT. One thing that gets lost in the shuffle here is that it feat...

Re: New MIDI Master Keyboard to Revamp Polyphonic Aftertouch
As extra incentive, here is a list (amassed by user tux99 on another forum) of hardware synths that can recognize poly-AT 'IN' messages: Yamaha SY55 Yamaha TG500 Yamaha EX5 / EX5R / EX7 Yamaha PLG150-DX card Roland JV-1010 Roland JV-1080 Roland JV-2080 Roland XV-2020 Roland XV-3080 Roland XV-5050 Ro...

NDVR Note: New Master Keyboard Revamps Polyphonic Aftertouch
Figured this might be of interest to some of you here who own rack synths that support poly AT but have no means of evoking it. It's capable of traditional polyphonic aftertouch, but because it works via optical sensors, it can also utilize the entire key movement from top to bottom to be interprete...

Re: Yamaha DX-11 questions
I don't know if I'm too late here, but I have some insights for you or anyone else looking for information on the matter. The DX-11 and DX-7 II do not have the same 0-100 velocity problem as the DX-7 MK I. While they can get to 127, it's very hard to achieve a value over 120. You really have to beat...
