Re: Basic Oscilloscope

Awesome guys, thanks for the advice. I'm liking the looks of that Rigol unit for sure. I'd love to spend closer to that $150 mark though. Have you looked at any of the Owon or Hantek digital oscilloscopes? Not quite as well specd or sturdily built as the Rigol, but they are a bit more affordable, a...

Re: Basic Oscilloscope

Used Tek or Agilent off eBay would be just fine. Tek 465s are a dime a dozen and built like a tank. I use a Tek 2245A at work and really like it. There is a certain appeal to the analog display for looking at analog and continuously variable voltages. Some (like the 2245) will have basic cursors or ...

Re: Korg DS-8 Main PCB or troubleshooting help?

Thanks for the tips :) ...PSU is healthy (loaded and unloaded) and the backup battery is a solid 3V. I'm getting good voltage and signal readings on the PCB test points, although it is hard to determine whether or not they are all correct without the full service manual :| The backup battery and eve...

Troubleshooting Help With Korg DS-8

Hey all, I picked up a Korg DS-8 at the thrift store the other day hoping it would be an easy fix. Long story short, it powers on with a blank screen and lit LEDs, but is otherwise completely unresponsive. No audio or MIDI either (although you can hear the "pop" of the op amps coming on when powerin...

Korg DS-8 Main PCB or troubleshooting help?

THE STORY: Picked up a Korg DS-8 the other day whose user interface is completely unresponsive. Powers on with a blank LCD and all right side LEDs frozen on. Looks like something may have been spilled on it many eons ago =/ I've cleaned and inspected all the PCBs and gone through the whole thing wit...

Re: Choosing a modular system...

can explain basic of modular system?, what the first thing must have in modular system? While I'm admittedly no expert, I'll take a stab here. There are basically 2 formats of modular system, Eurorack and Frac Rack. Eurorack is the more common of the two and normally runs on +/-12V. Frac rack modul...

Korg MS2000BR Through an Oscilliscope (full video)

Here I demonstrate some of the basic waveforms and filter functions of my Korg MS2000 analog modelling synth usingh the "Oscilliscope" iPhone app. Sorry for the close zoom. It's geeky I know, but I had fun making this vid and hopefully you guys enjoy.

Re: MS10 drone drift

Possibly overkill, possibly brilliance... but I've got an Antares ATR-1 Autotune rack that I'll sometimes slap on my "drifty" synths. They are $300-400 on eBay last I checked, and at modest settings can sound very natural for basic pitch correction. Just bear in mind they are designed for vocals, so...

Re: Nice "gritty" sampler for EBM/industrial

For all we know, he could be using a Tiger Electronics Talkboy to record audio off an AM radio broadcasting the soundtrack from "The Odd Couple" which was streamed from a Youtube video captured off someone's cellphone. No one's gonna call him out on not using some old DAC when there's infinite prob...

Re: Choosing a modular system...

Thank you both for the feedback, and bouzoukijoe1 thanks for the link, that was a very enlightening read :) Assuming I DO go for a mixed brand eurorack system, who makes a good rack/power supply combo that will ensure I have plenty of options? Is there a certain type of power supply busboard that is...

Choosing a modular system...

I am looking at getting into an analog modular system soon. I've been doing extensive research into the various brands and options available, but I'd really love some personal opinions in regards to what format/brand I should go with. Now I'm a broke music store employee/on-call engineer, so I'm on ...

Re: Nice "gritty" sampler for EBM/industrial

Eh, it was like $20 I think. Thrift stores and CL here are just full of overpriced MPCs and consumer c**p. It's been a long time since I've seen any good vintage gear for sale around here.
