Re: Phil Collins' Against the Odds E-Piano

Listening to it now, it sounds like a real piano with strings and whatnot layered with it. Probably a DX-7 playing the bell-like layer?

Re: Phil Collins' Against the Odds E-Piano

Is it possibly a Yamaha CP-series electric piano? I'll have to listen to it. That was kind of the sound of "80's Piano" before the DX-7 digital sound took over.

Re: Trying to recreate this sound

What the original synth is, is an ARP 2600 (I believe, after seeing a live video of it) and the one-note sustained part is just turning up the sustain (probably) to eliminate the choppiness of the LFO-based tremolo effect. I'll see if I can't find the video clip I saw and link it to you. EDIT: https...

Re: Good synth for 80's cover band

I am also a guitarist in an 80's cover band ( called Flock of Assholes, believe it or not ). I cover a lot of synth parts on effected guitar, but we also have a keyboard player who can play, but cannot create his own sounds, so I take care of that for him. I also suggest the Alesis Ion . I have a Mi...

Re: Arturia Vintage Collection Version 6

Wicked old thread reboot.... I am about to purchase Arturia Vintage Collection/Analog Lab for use in an 80's tribute band and I was wondering if there was a depository for song-specific patches for these synths? I plan on taking the next few months to find/edit/program patches for some 200+ songs in...

Re: Moog MG-1 super mod ideas.

The filter feedback mod is probably a misnomer. I am looking for a way to overdrive the filter. I initially thought of feeding the output back in, you're right, that would just make the filter resonate. I suppose I could add gain to a stage pre-filter. I'm looking to get some of the rich and nasty c...

Re: Scritti Politti synths

Cupid & Psyche 85 is one of a small collection of albums that really got me interested in synthesizers, sound designing and sequencing, as a teen. I'm still amazed by the great arrangements and sound-layering on that album. One thing I took away from it is that they never took the easy way out and u...

Re: Gear used by Heaven 17?

Penthouse and Pavement has one of my favorite examples of Roland GR-300 guitar synth playing the lead. Killer electric bass on that tune as well.

Re: Baldwin Syntha Sound

I believe one of the wooden bars shuts the modulation off, which seems counter-intuitive. I have one of these as well, but I have yet to get it to run. Does anyone have a schematic for one? I saw one on eBay that came with one, so I know it exists.

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?

I always loved the sound of "My Ever Changing Moods" by Style Council. I could never be sure if it was a ripping synth or an actual bass though.

Name that synth: Icicle Works

I was wondering what synth, possibly a stringer, is played on this live clip of Icicle Works. It can pretty clearly be seen right at the end.

The heterodyning oscillator is not a sound-maker. It's the electronic circuit that makes the antennae do their thing. Sorry to disappoint!
