The Boston Factor
I've had a couple of interesting experiences over the past year that have made the synth world feel a bit smaller. First, a few months ago, I replied to a Craigslist post to trade some gear (I traded a Waldorf Streichfett) for a fairly obscure MAM sequencer. I met the guy half way between Boston and...

Re: moog grandmother
Yeah, it looks pretty cool. I like the look of it much more than recent offerings of the past decade--they did away with the curved back panel and turned back to the look of their late 70s offerings. I think it's pretty cool that they are trying to distill the features and character of some of the i...

ELTA Polivoks Mini
This seems to have been in the works for some time. I'm probably more excited for this than for most of the new analog being released. Real mean and edgy tone. The sound is like the twisted progeny of a Pro-One and a 303 with a hard to identify edginess. I really like it. And it's supposed to be pri...

It finally happened. Glad I didn't buy any of the Roland boxes yet. I was on the verge of getting a TR-08. Sounds quite nice and I'm very excited they preserved the three trigger outs. Those hats sound

Re: IK Multimedia announce $200 UNO analog hardware synth
It looks like the next logical evolutionary step from in the Volca form factor. It's only $200 but it has a busload more features--for $40 more than a Volca. I would say this continues the trend of democratizing analog synths. And it has a couple interesting features like the variable waveshaping an...

Re: Dave Smith Sequential Prophet X
Maybe it's a combination follow-up to the Prophet synth line but also the Prophet 2000/2002? That would be promising for sure. Some of that Prophet 2000 DNA would be great.

Re: Boutique SH01a ...Pretty nice.
The TR-626 I used to own and the JV-1080 I currently own both required a bit getting used to. Any old knobby analog is going to be pretty straight forward obviously. For the record I don't mind editing matrixes or menu diving, its just that most of the digital yamaha, akai, and emu gear (aside from...

Re: Boutique SH01a ...Pretty nice.
vexing user interfaces Which Rolands? When I acquired a Jupiter 6, I had no need for a manual because it was laid out so intuitively. Now I have a Juno 60; I've never seen a simpler user interface, except maybe on the venerable Korg Synthe-Bass. Even the Volcas are more complex than a Juno. On the ...

Re: most flexible Realistic® drum machine
I have two rebranded VL-1's--they're labeled Concertmate 200 and carry the Realistic badge. They also rebranded the SK-1 and SK-5, but I don't remember what Concertmate model #s they ran them as. If you can find a rebranded SK-5, that might go a long way for you, since it will hold 4 samples in memo...

Re: KORG Prologue
Still waiting for someone to come up with something really exciting in a new analog, too many vanilla instruments hitting the street. I totally agree...I still consider the Evolver "family" the most interesting and exciting machines of the last years, even though has always been hard for me to acce...

Re: KORG Prologue
No more step sequencer? That was my favorite feature of the other 'logues! Am I greedy for still wanting it even with all the other s**t they've added? However, it has a nicely featured arp with several modes. And it has layers and splits. Reminds me a lot of Jupiter 6 features. Have a bass arp goi...

Re: KORG Prologue
Mmmmhhh I have to say that I'm quite disappointed: ok a 16 analog poly with two real VCOs that can be mixed with the third digital oscillator looks interesting, but it has only a 12db filter (no 24db, no high pass filter), there is no aftertouch, only 1 lfo, well it's bi-timbral so if you layer the...

KORG Prologue
We called it, people. And Korg have finally done it. One LFO seems an odd choice. But...16 voice VCO polysynth! It is what people have been begging for. I think it compares nicely with the announced Waldorf machine and comes in at 2/3 the price and twice the polyphony (for the 16 voice). http://cdn....
