Re: Full sized Korg Arp Odyssey

At $1,600, I better like the feel of the keys. The MS-20 full-size kit keys weren't the best.

Otherwise, I'm saving the $1,000 and going with the module and triggering it with my DX7.

Re: Interesting Junior-106 HS-60 mod/repackage

That is one of the more ridiculous things I have seen. 37 key polysynth...yuck. Looks cute, I'll give it that. I get the feeling that "little keyboard, how cute" is the sentiment that led to 49 keys becoming the new standard down from 61. cough cough DSI Prophet-6 and OB-6 keyboards cough cough Beh...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

Now that Korg has made their announcement, I might as well update. I bought the ODYSSEi app they announced to tide me over, and then I saw the Gearslutz thread about the full-size reissue rumors: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/1121415-korg-ar...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

I'm glad to see my mono GAS plans have fueled yours. I see you don't have anything Moog, though. Moog ladder + Oberheim state variable is an unbeatable combination. I would go KARP if I go OB-6, because I have a Voyager RME serving Moog duties. Oh wait, the KARP has the filter switch and t...

Re: Desktop vs full keyboard synths

For a while, my Voyager RME fell out of favor. I couldn't figure out why, until I had the chance to compare a keyboard Voyager to the Model D reissue. No, the Model D did not curbstomp the Voyager. When I got back home, I figured it out - my Voyager RME was just too far from my fingertips to be able...

Re: Gear Trading Thread

EDIT - No longer considering this trade. It was only a feeler anyway. Original trade in the spoiler. My Juno-60 (with Kenton Pro DCB) for your Prophet-600? The Juno-60 is in full working order but fair cosmetic condition. Not 100% sure on keeping it, but not 100% sure on getting rid of it. Location:...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

Hmm, that's a tough one. Having just gotten my P600 set up with gligli's mod, I'm well and truly in love with it - but it's hard to imagine parting with that glorious Juno chorus. (I'd say if anything, look at ditching the Alpha Juno 2 instead - but I've only had a tiny bit of experience with that ...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

After looking at OP's second post again, he already has a Juno-6 representing the Roland filter. Either DSI VCO poly would offer a voice more distinct from what he already has. As for me, I'm now also considering the Prophet-600, if the Sequential sound is what I need more than the Oberheim sound. B...

Re: Recommended first forays into vintage analogue synths?

Disclaimer: My avatar is merely poking fun at the mismatch between the name and the voice count of the JX-8P. to be fair, you should poke equally at the JX3P for having a mismatch in the other direction  Au contraire, that's what you call a "value-add!" :D Exactly. And, 3P is explained o...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

Is it okay if I hijack this thread? I'm about to have a similar question for Gear Purchase 2017. Feel free :) Thanks for giving me the go-ahead. My setup is very heavy on Roland poly, and my OB-Xa repair project a while ago was ultimately a failure, leaving me with GAS for the Oberheim or Sequentia...

Re: Recommended first forays into vintage analogue synths?

JX-8P does seem to be the best bet for the "big poly" sounds, the brasses, strings, and pads, within your budget. Having two envelopes, vs. only one on Alpha Juno or JX-3P, really helps articulate those sounds. It struggles with plucky sounds, but you say you're pairing it with a mono anyway, and SH...

Re: OB-6/Prophet-6/Jupiter 6

(In particular, as nice as the multimode filter is, it suffers from the same problem a lot of later Roland analogues do in that the resonance when cranked up doesn't seem to interact with the sound so much as just lay on top of it.) That's because the JP-6's filter, along with IR3R05, is two state ...

Re: Synths similar to the RS-09?

I paid about $350 including shipping for my RS-09. RS-09 wasn't my first choice (would have rather had a Crumar Performer or ARP Omni if space, money, and maintenance weren't limitations), but it grew on me. One trick up its sleeve is running it into a monosynth to get a paraphonic synth sound - org...

Re: Roland 909 Day

They already lost when they made TB-03 digital. Leave it the same as TB-3 (referred to on other forums as the green goblin), it's going to flop hard. Fix the incorrect accent, risk ticking off TB-3 owners. System-8: I might upgrade from my JP-8080, if the plug-out emulations increase the polyphony f...
