Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

The CODE is available from Nova Musik. They are very pricey, but well worth the money, imo. If I can sell my '74 B3 and 122 for some decent bread, I plan on getting one. Wow, $5,500. You can buy a Minimoog and an Oberheim for that kind of money. I have to wait 20 years until I can find one all mang...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

The Studio Electronics CODE sounds pretty amazing, imo. I'd love to have one. In fact, I plan on that in the future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uXq9jProtw Ha, yeah! I ran into that same video about a week or so ago and then also yesterday. It's pretty impressive. Then I looked into buying one ...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

The andromeda can sound less buzzy if you keep the pre filter and post filter mixes down below 50 or so. there are all sorts of tricks to coaxing different sounds on it. I find most youtube vid demos of the A6 tend to lack subtlety and go for the "OMG TURN EVERYTHING UP AND TURN THE CUTOFF!" type. ...

Re: Yamaha E70 Voice Cards in a CS80

The best CS-80 calibration guide is not in the CS-80 service manual, there is a separate 32 page calibration guide that Yamaha published. Yeah thats the guide I am talking about. It's not a CS-50 cal guide and there are some things that are different. Basically I had to resort to blindly cranking t...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

Have you read this thread? Yes I have, and I think your issue might be a combination of not really knowing how envelopes and voice/ oscillator assignment work within the limits of the synth's polyphony, and not setting your synth right, and possibly playing technique as well. I might be wrong, I co...

Re: Yamaha E70 Voice Cards in a CS80

So does that mean that I could swap out a voice card in my CS50 with a voice card in the CS80?????? To swap voice cards between a CS-50 or CS-60 and a CS-80 you need to replace 5 resistors and three trim pots and then re-calibrate. Also make sure that the VCO voice rankings match or are close. Ther...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

Poly Evolver KB + Poly Evolver rack :? There are only four voices worth of analog oscillators on the PEK. Oooo the andromeda sounds like the mother of all keyboards when it comes to layering. Its pretty incredible that out od the blue (late nineties???) Alesis had the idea to make a super analog sy...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

Here are the at least 8 voice dual VCO Synths I know about off the top of my head: OB8 - 8 voices. Layer and split. Many uncommon LFO triggering options. OB-Xa - available with 4, 6, or, 8 voices. Layer and split. OBX - available with up to 8 voices. No layer or split. Matrix 12 - 12 voices. Up to ...

Re: Yamaha E70 Voice Cards in a CS80

No thanks Doug. I had extra voice cards for my CS50 at one time. It wasnt that big of a deal to invest that much $$$ into one, so I sold them all. But I may need a VCF chip off one. IDK. Do you, or does anyone else, know if any of the individual IC chips are the same? I've heard that most are not. S...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

Wow, lots of good suggestions and opinions. The Xpander and Matrix 12 seem to be the king of modulation capabilities. But for the price, I'm not sure if I want to deal with those means of editing parameters. I'd much rather just pick up a JP8. Someone suggested the JP6 Europa V2 but its layering is ...

8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

Im looking for a good super synth. One that is capable of layering sounds together and has tons of modulation / sound capabilities. Im not a fan of DCO but I have a P08 which is good. There arent many options out there that I cN think of thst have been made in the last 30-40 years. These are the syn...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

Understood. I still found it a hindrance on the JP8 considering I mostly used 3-4 simultaneous dual-mode notes on the same patch for upper and lower, and usually with enough amp release to notice the issue. The JP8 voice stealing can be set to linear increments if you power up holding down 1&3 patc...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

To the best of my knowledge, all analog envelopes have this so-called re-triggering problem. My experience with the envelopes tells me the JP8 uses a exponential slope on the decay and release, whereas the JP6 is linear. ie. the JP8 will always sound more "snappy". Try to remember though, that the ...
